The purpose of the Center for Financial Certification's Candidate's Guide is to help you master the 18 Learning Outcome Statements as quickly and as effectively as possible so you can pass the CFA Level I exam your first time. The Candidate's Guide covers each Learning Outcome Statement (LOS) in detail in a Study Session, but focuses only on the relevant material you must know for the exam. Our aim is to also save you time by identifying your weakest knowledge areas and helping you focus your limited study time on them.

You begin your studies with the CFA Curriculum on Page 1 and continue your studies page-by-page. We have reordered the Learning Outcome Statements, where necessary, to make learning more intuitive than in the CFA Institute's Study Guide. Study Guide command words are in boldface in the LOS title; the examiners expect that your knowledge reflects the command word.

For study efficiency, we suggest that you first read each Learning Outcome Statement to get familiar with the section and then answer the assessment questions to determine your weakest topics. By getting quick feedback on your weakest areas, you will know where best to allocate your study time.
