Girl is 13 years old and people are hating on her for that song.
Songs worse than “Friday:”
We Built This City - Starship
Everyone Have Fun Tonight - Wang Chung
Any Kenny G or Michael Bolton song
Plenty of bad rap songs from one hit wonders like “Candyman”
this one is pretty bad:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KHj85oyYpfI
it ranks up there with some of the worst songs Ive EVER heard man. You cant deny it.
Tomorrow is Saturday… and Sunday is afterwards.
“I’m a CPA! I got money b***h!”
Another week song, Saturday Night by Whigfield. I mean day song. I mean weak. I mean come on. Also Manic Monday by The Bangles. Not all day songs are awful. Boom Town Rats I Don’t Like Mondays, great song.
The world is full of drivel - anything by the Spice Girls for example. This girl is getting great publicity for no special reason. Just for the record (pun intended), lyrics from Wannabe, Spice Girls:-
I’ll tell you what I want, what I really really want,
So tell me what you want, what you really really want,
I wanna, I wanna, I wanna, I wanna, I wanna really
really really wanna zigazig ha.
Now that is truly sht. Zigazig ha!
Whats wrong with Manic Monday by the Bangles!!! What a tune, in fact every monday morning its the first song i switch on, when walking to work, then I sorta skip along the road and wave to everyone, wishing all the time that it was sunday.
i don’t think its fair to list songs from the 80s because you’re putting the entire decade, and some of the early 90s, into question.
pauly shore - good guy or everything wrong with humanity? see what i mean…
i think it’s ok to question entire decades of music. some decades (or spans of years) completely suck. usually happens after one group becomes super successful in a particular genre and then all the “me too” bands are churned out by the record companies looking to cash in on the trend. usually takes some time for the sheeple to say ‘ok no more of this crap’…….untill the next trend emerges and the cycle begins again.
cycles and trends are important, though. ‘Stairway to Heaven’ was initially disliked, but eventually became the most requested radio song of all time.
i blame crappy songs on the music industry shifting from the ‘album’ to ‘hit single’ format
I blame the Sri Lankan Rajaratnam idiot who composed the song and the out-of-place brother rapping in the video.
Hahaha that chick’s dad must be a baller at Sony or BMG or something…

Yeah, for a 13 year old, it’s pretty impressive. But what makes my skin crawl is the feeling that daddy or mommy just made (or gave in to her daughter’s request to be in) a music video for their daughter to put on the internet and look like she did it all herself.
(Now I guess it’s possible that she did do it all herself, in which case, that is pretty impressive, but it just seems unlikely that a 13 year old can do a video of that quality without someone else putting up the bucks to buy the talent to do lighting and sound and hire the groupies to be the faux background dancers and all).

Her parent’s paid 2k. Big deal. I know kids who had multiple horses growing up, were given brand new cars, had both their undergrad and grad or law school educations paid for.
Jimmy Iovine isn’t going to write a song for 2k so obviously it isn’t going to be a pop masterpiece. Look at the garbage songs Kim Kardashian, Paris Hilton, et al have put out. No one has ripped them.

Actually, this music video was produced by a mass production shop called Ark (Arc?), or something like that. Their business model is to spam the internet with many teenage music videos with the hope that one of them will become the new Justin Bieber.

Are you sure that no one has ripped Kim Kardashian or Paris Hilton? Ever???
It still makes my skin crawl a bit. Imagine how this conversation might have gone:
“So, my darling daughter, what do you want to be when you grow up?”
“I want to be famous, Daddy, just like Lindsay Lohan, Britney Spears, Paris Hilton, and Kim Kardashian!”
“Great, baby, here’s $2,000 to go make a video and put it on YouTube. That should do the trick.”
“Oooh, DADDY! Thanks so much! And once I’m done, I think I’ll go and make another video to go along with it.”

Pretty sure that when they were 13 they weren’t referred to as “worthless garbage” and told to “cut themselves and bleed to death” but, hey what do I know.
I doubt the girl said she wanted to be the next Katy Perry or Justin Bieber. That would be like you announcing at morning meeting that you are going to be the next Steve Cohen. Imagine the laughs your colleagues would have.
Just like when that family put the smiling baby video on Youtube they weren’t probably expecting to be flown into Manhattan and go on the Today show and Good Morning America. Things happen with the internet.

fun fun fun this is so much fuuuuun.
Studying With
If she wants to be like Kim or Paris, she should think about celebrating her 18th birthday with a porn video, or at least some very nude photos
Although I did see her interview to ABC, and she seems to be a very nice girl. Her parents evidently lack taste, she should sing chorales at that age, not this sh..t

What do you know? What I know is that the world is a big place and that teenage girls call each other worthless garbage all the time. And as adults, there are plenty of people who detest Paris and Kim for the celebration of shallowness that they embrace and represent.
BTW, I think calling the girl “worthless garbage” is uncalled for. I think the video is silly, but that doesn’t mean she is garbage. And I am worried about a bigger issue, which is that it used to be that people wanted to be famous FOR something - some kind of contribution to society; today it seems that one should just try to be famous for being famous sui generis, and I’m uncomfortable with adults who feed this desire for attention for attention’s sake.
I’m fully aware that to some extent, this kind of thing has been going on for centuries, but the Internet seems to make it much more acute and public.

Actually *wanting* to be the next Steve Cohen would not have my colleagues laughing, they would admire that, because Steve Cohen has a list of admirable accomplishments, and that represents ambition. What would make them laugh is to say that I *am* the next Steve Cohen, because that demonstrates a lack of perspective about what it takes to do that and be that.
I don’t even bash the girl for wanting to do a video; but I do worry about what guidance she has gotten from her parents about what that kind of exposure can do. e.g. Lindsay Lohan. But my guess is that the parents want to be famous just as much as their daughter, and are basically pimping her out (figuratively) without telling her what the risks are.
And, there is the possibility that she just made this video for her friends to share with each other, and that she didn’t realize that she’d be splayed out all over the place… but if that’s the case, why spend 2 grand on the production value.

That’s true. I’ve been on the internet too! Stuff happens there. ;-)

one of my biggest pet peeves is when people try to bring others down because they’re too lazy, or not willing, to bring themselves up.
