Need some Advice (CFA level 2 candidate) CSC worth it?

[original post removed]

Would probably depend if u plan on being registered as a securities rep or with the mfda for mutual fund selling. Basically an investment advisor. U do come across some posts that ask for it but usually it’s cause they want just some securities background. One thing that csc has that u won’t learn for the CFA text is the local regulations.

If you need it for a specific job requirement, yes. If you don’t need it, no. I wouldn’t even look at it on a resume. It’s a meaningless piece of paper.

And remember that it also has an expiry date for the course if not with a IIROC member firm, so agree with geo that only attempt if its required.

If you’re interested in Sales and Trading, its usually required, but then again, they also require CPH etc.

Its one of those certs where there’s no good answer - firms may not consider you if you don’t have it, but they also want a litany of other certs that you usually acquire on the job.

If you’re entry level and applying for any entry level role, the company will usually cover them, and it’s not really worthwhile to get it, flip side is you might not get the job if they favour someone who already has it. It’s a catch 22. really, because nobody has an extra 1000$ to throw away for such an uncertain benefit.

don’t do it. you’ll have to go through a 90 day training period wherein you’re useless to the employer anyway so adding a 10-15 day lag to set and complete your CSC and CPH exams prior to that 90 day period isn’t going to make you less attractive as a candidate. plus they’ll pay for the exams when you’re an employee 99.9999999% of the time.
