I failed level 2 this June and did way below my expectations. After the exam I was almost sure that Iam gonna fail ,so when the result came I was not surprised. After the result I just gathered some thoughts and tried to analyse what went wrong. For me it was just lack of practise of the right type of questions…the item set,I relied on Schweser and cfainstitute textbooks. EOC And blue box examples are good but only few of EOC are in shape of item set . Can somebody help me regarding where can I find question bank of ITEM SET TYPE questions ….?????

Even though the EOC and blue box questions aren’t in item set format, if you can do all of those, you will pass.  In reality, I didn’t even think the questions were much difficult to comprehend than L1.  It seems like the majority of them were in order of the vignette and would each have their own individual paragraph.  I hope you quickly realized that more than likely the first paragraph matched with the first question, the second with the second and so on.  Not one question did I actually read through the whole thing.  In fact, most of the information in there is useless.  Doing the EOC and blue box questions really help in knowing what information to skim for.  I just passed on my first go this year, but I didn’t do more than 10 questions in the Schweser Notes.  They were too easy and useless.

Now to answer your question… buy the six Schweser practice exams, buy the two CFA mocks, take the free CFA mock they provide, and that ought to do it.  That’s nine practice exams or 1080 questions in addition to the EOC’s and Blue Boxes.  If you’re not doing well after that, your time needs to be spent on reading the material, EOC’s & Blue Boxes which may not necessarily in the question format.

Good luck the next go around!

many people with “finance” backgorunds are level 2 retakers (multiple times), some people pass after 2-3 trys.

if you passed level 1.. you have enough of a finance background in my opinion. the test is very difficult.

I feel your pain. I also felt strongly that neither the CFAI curriculum nor Schweser materials prepared me for the confusing vignettes, and unfortunately I don’t have good advice on how to tackle them. I can only say that if you know the material well enough to be confident in your knowledge, you won’t be shaken up by the curveballs that are thrown at you, and you will be able to pick out what you need to answer the questions. There should be no reason why the item set format would cause a well-studied candidate to fail. I also don’t think having no financial background is a big disadvantage at L2. All you really need to know is L1, as dvictr put it. It really comes down to time and effort, and making sure you understand the material well, and test yourself in different ways. If you don’t know your stuff, practicing 1000 item sets won’t help you.

+1

So sorry to hear about your results and people with “background” have failed this. So chill my friend.

I also agree with SDC. As such Item sets are not the problem as we dedinitely dont find much correlation between #1 and #5 of an item set. So even practising individually is ok and you can make slow transition to item sets. All the best!

Sooraj.

Ive put in my two cents there as a first hand finquiz user for CFA level 2.

All the questions are NOT in itemset format. There are quite a few itemset questions though.

Best regards,

Sooraj.
