Yes, The item sets will be organized by topics. At the beginning of the exam, it will be given that which item set is for which topic. The format will be like given below:
Questions 1-6 : Ethics
Question 7-12: Quantitative Methods
Questions 13-18: Equity
Questions 19-24: Equity
Questions 25-30: Financial Reporting and Analysis
Questions 31-36: Financial Reporting and Analysis
Questions 37-42: Derivatives
Questions 43-48: Corporate Finance
Questions 49-54: Alternative Investment
Questions 55-60: Portfolio Management
so they dont ask questions from econ and debt?

it was one of the biggest topics in l1 and perhaps the most interesting one in l2!!
They used to ask 2 item sets from fixed income but last year they asked only 1 item set from fixed income. I got to know about that from this blog - http://konvexity.wordpress.com/2014/04/08/cfa-level-ii-in-2-months/
I am not sure about the authenticity. May be someone who has written exam last year as well can confirm. I also agree that fixed income is the most interesting area in L2 along with alternative investments.

Just don’t study those topics and you’ll be fine
