Almost forgot what it was like...

Won’t be able to do it for another 71 days but I almost forgot what it was like to have fun. Got away yesterday and went skiing. 3 inches of fresh (not bad), no traffic, and 40 degrees out. I’m back in the grind now and still feel burned out, but can’t wait until this L2 is out of the way. Back to back Dec and June cfa exams blow. Anyone else been able to get away for a day?

I’m going to a poker party tonight. Nice to take a break.

good luck on your studies!

yup. played golf last week. it was awesome. then the guilt kicked in. then i started saying if i fail, it’s because i played golf instead of studying. LOL. this test is driving me freaking insane. you know i’m nicer to people because i don’t want karma to come back and make me fail? and i’m totallly not the kind of person that believes in that stuff.. but this test…

Damn poker sounds fun. Everytime I try and play poker through, I wind up getting too buzzed up and the next day can’t study, nor pay my bills. I’m sure you’ve got better skills though. win big!

cfas1-
you went to John Harris’s seminar in San Fran didn’t you? Were you in the middle section and did you work in the San Fran area in corp finance? Not sure if that’s who I’m thinking of.

I was there in the middle, but i don’t work in corp finance. which one were you?

i play poker once a year on average, just for fun with my friends and co-workers. it’s more of hanging out rather than trying to make money.

I was thinking of the guy that moved seats cause he was directly under the air conditioner vent 2nd row. I was sitting just to his right, 2nd row.
Anyway just curious. Definitely glad I made that seminar.
More importantly how you’d score on the golf game.

i think i sat behind you then. Played ok that day, but the important thing is i got out and did something besides study. (excluding at least an hour a day with my baby daughter)
on another note. have you done anything else with FSA since? i’ve gone back and made some flashcards but i’m worried that while John made everything pretty clear that it will be back to brutality once i pick it back up..

I was on the right side of the room, across the aisle from that guy. I think i have you narrowed down to two. I’m the guy from Denver.
After the class I spent a full week going over his review and questions and taking schweser. I wasn’t all that prepared going in but after the class and another intense week, I felt good about it. I’ve gone back a few times and went over questions and over test bank and I’m still geting 80%+ on all the FSA stuff. For whatever reason it’s sticking.
I did go back through and may notecards of the specific areas that he told us to make note cards and that helped a ton. Every week or so I go back over those cards and re-memorize all the necessary memory things, ex. historical vs. current rate vs. average rate for Temporal and All current methods etc…
If you back. Go through his questions again, review your note cards and you’ll be good. I’ve seen a lot of your posts and I’m sure you’re on top of it just fine.

i remember you. surfing w/ the bosses. i sat right behind the person under the a/c. anyway. thanks for that, i’m going to review fsa more heavily in a few weeks, i’m just doing flash cards for formulas and concepts right now, but haven’t tried to memorize everything yet.

GMofDen's picture

Yeah that guy. Okay I remember.
Good luck. Did I read that you are you all done with all your readings? Did you make it through derivatives yet? I’m on SS#12 and now that I’m out of FSA and Quant I’m starting to make up some time. As compared to L1 I’m at about a 70% confidence interval for L2 vs where I was at for L1. How are you feeling about it.

cfasf1's picture

i’ve got to say that i’m about 70% as well. i did all my readings through schweser. derivatives was ok, though i had to read swaps twice. my biggest worry is with retention. i ran into an equity swap problem in qbank last night and i was stumped. freaked me out. hoping flashcards or the act of making flashcards will refresh everything. doing that helped a ton with quant.

Fun?

Does not compute…….

GMofDen's picture

Mathmatically I think fun computes to be the exact reciprical of cfa.
Need to start planning out vacation for June 8th. Hawaii sounds good.
