Be prepared for years of waiting.

Yeah, you want to talk to an IP attorney (there are lots of them these days). It’s tricky, and will be wasted money if you don’t know what you are doing, and why you are doing it.
yeah I heard UCB has a good IP law program - so good attorneys from that school I try to avoid lawyers at all costs though.
