AF needs to attract new people. It seems like it’s always the same old commenters here. Not that there is anything wrong with the old AF people, but we can only talk about the same HCBs so many times. I’m not sure what would be the best way to go about this. It seems like there needs to be a constant flow of CFA-related news for people to talk about. That is, Chad should hire someone to shadow John Rogers and report the details of his personal life. Or maybe maintain a cache of exclusive porn that becomes available as you reach AF Points milestones.
Of course, the recent slowdown in website performance did not help.
Sorry for the slow site this past week. The new system did not handle the traffic spike very well. We’re going to try a new server tonight that should help quite a bit when these high loads hit.
^ That’s what the Schweser can couzzi’s and tee’s are supposed to do… arrtifical stimlus to inflate volume on these boards.
If you look at the points leaders on the right, there are only like 2 people that still post here. A lot of people got butt hurt and said the wouldnt be back when the boards changed.

At least 3 of the top ten still post very frequently and I still notice a couple of the others now and then.
yeah, not sure why ppl got butthurt cause of the change……i know a few value guys who departed due to a lack of intellectual peers….
I’m not sure if “lack of intellectual peers” is the correct way to look at it. There are a bunch of people (for instance, higgy, jmh, zesty, STL, purealpha, bromion, even you, Frank) who occasionally decide to say clever things. However, who wants to be serious all the time? So, even the knowledgeable people post 90% joke stuff and 10% clever stuff.
I can understand if people stop posting because they are looking for more intellectual material. In which case, there need to be “seed” discussions to give people ideas. If left alone, people won’t go to internet forums to excitedly discuss their regression results on obscure economic variables. They just want to shoot shit around.
I think the problem is that a lot of the noobs are freshout of school, work in BO or are unemployed, and think that if they pass these test they’ll work at GS or open a hedge fund.

Seems like the CFA boards get a fair amount of new blood, but they don’t come around Water Cooler or Investments very often. We should have a community outreach program to encourage the new guys to post here.
i agree Sweep…let them stay in their level 1 and 2 forums talking about how hard the exam is….i honestly don’t want to field any questions around if they pass level 1 whether they would get a goldman sachs MD position or whether Level 3 is really the easiest level…….i did that once in my lifetime, ain’t happening again…..

Actually in the old days (years ago) there were so many newbies on here, so many new names every week…but it seems like just a few core people these days.
we don’t have the same level of violence and racial tension….but we don’t make nearly as much money as our American counterparts…..we have better plants here for sure and our babes are as classy as they come….

You don’t have the same level of violence and racial tension because only 8 people live in Canada. I love visiting Canada and English-speaking Canadians are some of the nicest people in the world, but it’s really hard to compare the US and Canada when they have roughly the same area but Canada has only 11% of the US’s population.

Some of the problems of the Watecooler board are :
1) Lame topics
2) Poor posting the majority of which people making comments where they have no idea what they are talking about
3) Thin skinned babies like ohai or iteracom who cry when you challenge them for posting incorrect info
BUT this is in theory an academic board so it really is what it is.

I suspect that what has happened over the past week is that thousands of lurkers have piled in, looking for chatter about the recent exams.
All of this activity caused the site to become super-slow for several days, and discouraged the regulars from posting.
Thus: more traffic, but fewer posts.
