What? How is this possible in a world where Instagram is sold for $1 billion? Do people just not use Digg any more?

Sad day for Rose. Should have tried approaching the Zuck.

That’s surprising. I would have thought Digg’s traffic generation made it worth millions easily

Hope. It is the quintessential human delusion, simultaneously the source of your greatest strength, and greatest weakness.

I check digg every other day or so for the past few years. A few years back, the top diggs would have like 1000+. Now it takes like a massive story for something to get close to that. The top diggs are closer to 200-300.

Reddit killed Digg.

Also Facebook. You only have so much time to spend on the internet.

Which is why, aside from Google and Amazon, I have a very difficult time investing in Internet stocks anymore.  Too easy for an upstart to come along and knock out the champ.

This times infinity.  One of Reddit’s founders, Alexis Ohanian, wrote an open letter to [Digg founder] Kevin Rose a few years ago trying to warn him about over-monetizing the site and taking power away from the users.  The re-vamp of Digg crippled the site and repelled a good deal of the userbase.  A lot of the tweaks, as Digg progressed, actually made it worse in many people’s eyes, not better.

Ads killed Digg. They started forcing shit down our throat by putting ‘sponsored’ articles on the top.

Alexa still has Digg at the 188th most visited website worldwide - http://www.alexa.com/siteinfo/digg.com

I don’t know how accurate Alexa can be, but this is really surprising. It beats Trip Advisor and The Wall Street Journal.

Just looked at the list – thought the “adult” sites would be ranked much higher.

#54 LiveJasmin.com - haha. This is a porn pop-up spam website…
