Blackberry Passport

Apple has been getting all the attention with its new iPhones and Apple Watch, but Blackberry just released its newest phone the Passport and it is getting okay reviews.

Anyone thinking of going back to BB?

i know many professionals in Canada who are sticking with, or going back to BB. good for work and less tempting to play stupid timewasting games on. the trackpad keyboard is pretty cool and prevents having to obscure your view of the screen to scroll and such. not a game changer but definitely one of few advantages of having a keyboard that didn’t exist before.

I have a Blackberry, but only because the company gave it to me free. I think I am like many corporate users - no brand loyalty and in fact, would be happy if the company surrendered and got us iPhones.

In response to this new Blackberry model - it seems better than the current Blackberries, so maybe this is an opportunity for me to “accidentally” lose my company phone and get a replacement. However, the basic problem still exists - that is, we want a different phone…

I used BB for several years (was all my company supported), but switched to a Galaxy S3 about 20 months ago when my company began supporting almost everything. My Galaxy is a great phone, but I’ll take a close look at this new BB when I’m due for a new phone. My biggest reasons for switching were the small screen on the BB (I had a Bold) and the lack of decent apps. This new one has an Android emulator, so it runs a lot of Android apps, and has a large screen. I’ve never really taken to the virtual keyboard on the Galaxy either, preferring the physical keyboard on the BB.

No one pays for a BB anymore. The damage to the brand has been done.

i have one just for work. there;s something nice about a solid touch keyboard when emailing and no distractions from app icons on the BB that keeps me still using it.

I loved my Blackberry Bold when I had it from 2009-2011. The physical keyboard was awesome, the blinky red notification light was helpful. It had the apps I needed. My biggest complaint was the web browser sucked.

Blackberry can have a ton of success if they focus on their niche market. It seems like they’ve finally realised that competiting with Samsung and Apple was a losing game. Switching from Drake to Wayne Gretzky as brand ambassador is symbolic of that.

You mean from Alicia Keyes to Wayne Gretzky.

Drake is with the Raptors.

^ Drake was rumoured to be the new guy: http://techcrunch.com/2014/06/19/blackberry-in-talks-with-drake-for-blackberry-classic-launch-promotion/ But yes Keyes was the old ambassador.

^ Didnt know about Drake.

Agree, he wouldn’t fit with the image the company should aim for.

Frankie (a BB fan himself), suggests Kim K as an ambassador.

What a piece of garbage, this new square BlackBerry.

I have one free from my employer and its a nice change from my personal phone. Wouldn’t pay for one myself though. I remember when blackberries used to be just as expensive as any other phone, their bold and curve were high end phones. Then quality went to shit and they started selling pink phones to kids.
