I’m glad she lost. We’ve all have to deal with unfairness in our career. She’s not entitled to $16 million for some perceived (or even actual) slights. Also, her severance of $33,333 a month for six months was already excessive in the first place. She just came across as a gold-digger.
The verdict followed testimony by two dozen witnesses who variously painted Kleiner as unfriendly to women and Pao as a difficult employee. The jury dismissed Pao’s claims that the firm where she worked for seven years valued and judged women and men according to different standards.
I know I can’t infer anything from just that bit, but it’s funny- being mean to other women =/= Pao herself can’t suffer gender discrimination
if this platform is any indication, it’s clear that there are men that look down on women just because they’re women. I don’t know where the line is between “gender discrimination” and “he’s an asshole”. I don’t know what, if anything, can be done to change other people’s attitudes.
It’s possible that they were taken out of context, but it seems Pao’s employers/colleagues had snooty attitudes re;women. It’s not rare. But I guess it’s difficult to prove that their personal attitudes affected their professional…
This case is a step backwards for women workers everywhere. Now, all VC firms are going to treat female employees as potential discrimination lawsuits. The fact of the matter is that these assholes are jerks to everyone for any reason - being female, fat, Indian, short, wearing the wrong clothes, red head, or anything else you can think of. The difference is that none of those people other than the female is going to lose their shit and file a high profile multi million dollar lawsuit because they were passed for a promotion that 90 percent of people don’t get anyway.
Also, you realize that she is lying about not knowing the guy was married, right?
