Is there any general law or ethical boundary against taking pictures at work ?There were these girls taking selfies when all of the sudden a guy from HR popped up threatening them with legal issues claiming its company property.

That would depend on where you work and whether or not it was a work phone. I worked for a defense contractor for awhile and when they finally did allow us to start having camera phones there, if I’d have taken a photo they would have confiscated the phone and fired me on the spot.
