Kurds

So I have a general understanding of the history of the Kurds and the tensions in the region but would be interested in hearing some perspectives on it from people with first or second hand experiernce.

On some level it seems hipocritical that Muslims get all pissed at Israel but defend the Turks and Syria ruling and displacing the Kurds.

I have no first or second hand knowledge of the Kurds, but after watching the VICE documentary on them, I totally dig their style.

This is third on my reading list:

I’ll report back in a few weeks.

I have been to kurdistan on various occasions what is it exactly you wanna know ?

In my biased view many of them have been oppressed for too long however they dont exactly know what they want. The weird fact:

During the Iran-Iraq war the kurds in iran were collabrating with Iraqi Army while the kurds on the other side assisted Iran.

Well, I was just wondering what your views and experiences of them are. And from your background how you view them. It appears the views of the Kurds from outside the middle east tend to be much more favorable than those from within the region and I wonder what impact being in closer proximity has had.

Looks like some have bought into the Western narrative of them being the “good guys”. Not too different than what the Bosnians, Afghans, Baathists were once. Usually a prelude to more military adventures.

Should I PM you or is a free discussion what you are after ?

Well as you see, kurds are a minority however there is a political joke that they have more political parties (mainly socialists and commies) than there are kurds. Most if not all of them have the same agenda:

  1. Liberation of kurdistan
  2. Recognition of kurdistan as a socialist country

I dont have any problem with what they demand personally, however just like most extremist groups seeking change if you ask them about their plans for future of kurdistan, they dont have any.Maybe and just maybe the reason middle easterners were never fond of them were because of their non muslim approach to nearly everything(I am not so sure about this one though).

Also although I am not saying the goverments in most middle eastern countries have had their hands clean of war crimes and things like that kurds have always been known for their rather brutal and inhumane approach towards their enemies.

As a very irrelevant side note the land scape of kurdistan is very beautiful.PM me for any specific info,I will be happy if I can answer

PM works too, either way, just curious.

Nothing political, just personal experience; simply when i was out in Iraq with the US military back on 04’ to 05’ - there was a level of trust and ease with the Kurd workers, as well as the Kurdish Peshmerga, that didn’t exist with the any other Iraqi citizens, other than the Iraqi christians.

But my understanding is that this made Iraqis mistrustful (practically viewed as treasonous) of both of these groups, since they were very wiling to give truthful assessments of what was really occuring in our area of operations.
