All I could think of when I opened this article is how much I hate this man's glasses

I go to NYC every so often for conferences and every year there is some new group think item that every member of the NYC herd must have to showcase their trendyness. This year for guys it seems to be those brown pattern rounded frame “vintage” glasses. Somehow these things make me more angry than the skinny jeans did.

I agree there are a lot of pretty douchey things that men in NYC all think is the coolest item to have. There are quite a few try hards in this city. I cant help but think of how their children will make fun of them in 20 years, much like I make fun of my parents for the terrible clothing they wore.

Maybe they’re just Truman Capote fans.

They are too small for his face. And the top button of his shirt is unbuttoned. Hacksaw this tool.

Are those Jake Jarmel’s glasses? I thought you could only get those in Malaysia.

I don’t mind the glasses, though they wouldn’t look good on me. Fashions change over time and this one is not all that bad. I think what’s driving it is the prep school look. Now that wealth is mostly concentrated in elite families, looking like you are a prep school trust fund kid is in.

Skinny jeans are way worse in my opinion, as well as plaid shirts with bow ties, and the man bun in the hair.

I’m getting a pair with non-prescription lenses to I can look cool too

I often leave my top button undone, but then tighten my tie. It’s more comfy and you have to look pretty close to tell because it is hidden by the knot.

Also, that guy it trying way too hard.

^ I’ve been seeing commercials for dress shirts with “comfort” collars that expand.

agree with bchad. yet, i don’t understand trends that lean toward the uncomfortable. why wear giant clunky frames? why wear unnecessarily tight jeans? i probably wear the lightest glasses on planet earth and people like Francois Hollande and Brad Pitt wear my glasses so they should be the coolest. maybe they’re simply too expensive for the try-hards, or maybe being expensive is uncool? idk. btw, i’m not bragging about my glasses, but they are the best.

You rock Lindbergs?

yes sir, but only because i have double vision coverage so i can spend up to $750 before it comes out-of-pocket. otherwise, they’d be well out of my price range.

Lindbergs come in this style too:

the horror! even the Danes are getting hipster!

the danes have always been hipster.

I’m considering lindbergs. Do you like em?

I have to get new glasses in the very near future, but I’m just gonna stick with a relatively unhip frame.

they will look great with this

Haha, that’s awesome.

they’ll change your life.

i have these…

i can’t imagine it’s possible to make a lighter pair of glasses and they’re 100x more durable than other light glasses. most light frames break on me in 2-3 months and i’m 15 months in on my lindbergs and not even any bending as of yet. titanium frame and the frame is “solar-fused” to the lenses, whatever that means, so the frame shouldn’t break or detach from the lenses. i’ve slept on them, my kids have smacked them off my face.

as for style, they’re certainly unique and i get lots of compliments, despite them being anti-hipster. if you’re a yuppie like myself, they fit the look. they’re perfect for someone who can’t wear contacts but doesn’t want to hide behind a pair of glasses.

other lindberg designs with a little more frame are still quite minimalist and acheive most of the same as the above with a little more “style”. so long as my current pair is intact or at least repairable in a year’s time, i’ll probably end up getting a pair with a little bit of frame to add to my lindberg collection. but as i said, i have $hitloads of vision coverage and without it, i probably wouldn’t be able to justify the high price tag. mine cost about $900 CAD when the CAD was strong so they’re probably closer to $1100 CAD now.

those are sick
