Visium PM on insider trading- commits suicide

Sanjay valvani was charged with 5 counts. His FDA insider tipper already pled guilty and is cooperating. Sanjay turned himself in this morning. I wonder how many years he gets. Stanford swim champ rape guy got 6 months (but will only stay in jail 3 months)… hmm

He would come out soon (many couple of years) as Rajat Sharma (Harvard guy).

Indian so I assume he’ll have the book thrown at him? Wealthy so he can afford a good lawyer. Should be a fun one. Im torn on insider trading cases, as a non-violent crime I am not the biggest fan of jail time but you need to make the punishment bad enough as to discourage the behaviour otherwise it will run rampant as its so easy to do. Maybe force them to do hard labor for once in their life if you are caught doing that crap.

Also: “Stanford swim champ rape guy” is an awesome name

Non violent crime, hopefully he gets off easy. But since he’s not a privileged white male, he’ll probably get 10 years.

Not true, look it up Rajat Sharma but his buddy got 10 years - he look black.

One of the accused was also the brother in law of the founder. Main guy swindled $32 million in insider trading gains, allegedly. This guy has steel guts. Too bad he’ll probably end up behind steel bars now. What a punk. Visium is done

Holy moly, the guy committed suicide. He left a suicide note. Wow What a loser

yea pretty cowardly if you ask me. Feel bad for family as always when these things happen. Find it hilarious these people commit these stupid white collar crimes that they certainly did not need to commit, and cant take the punishment. Its not like they needed this to feed their family or anything.

real question is, did he use a hacksaw to do it? insider trading is most certainly a hacksaw activity

Duke website: Education has always been an integral focus for Valvani’s family. With humble beginnings in India, his parents’ academic aptitudes offered them the opportunity to attend the University of Michigan in the 1960s. Additionally, Valvani married a former first-grade teacher/reading specialist, Jot Sandhu, who naturally shares his strong value on education. After growing up in Kalamazoo, Valvani began his undergraduate education at University of Michigan, then transferred to the University of North Carolina-Chapel Hill to study Health Policy & Administration. Post-graduation, Valvani spent four years working as a health care consultant in Chicago and San Francisco before attending Fuqua and looking to transition to Wall Street. With the Health Sector Management program’s top reputation, Fuqua was a prime choice to support that transition. “When I met him in 1997, I knew Sanjay was a star academically,” Hargrove said, “but he didn’t have much work experience, so we thought an admissions deferral would be beneficial. It was our way of saying, ‘We think you’re wonderful and will add tremendous value to our school, but you’ll get more out of your time at Fuqua if you have work experience to apply what you’re learning.’”

Seriously, just go to jail and come out still rich like Michael Milken. Also, why the knife…

Sad. Sentencing is too harsh for a fairly minor crime.

I didn’t catch the sentence, how long was it?

And as for cowardly, I’d say that slashing your own throat with a knife takes both talent and guts.

Presumably his family doesn’t truly need extra income, though if he’s guilty perhaps the Feds will fine or confiscate a good portion of profits. And if he was going to prison for a long time, they’re not likely to have much of his company anyway.

So while suicides are sad, I’m not sure anyone is particularly worse off in this case, except for the guy’s would-be cell mate(s).

Takes a special person to slit their throat. Does anybody have experience in this matter? Can’t be easy.

I agree with yayyywork, it is cowardly. It’s running away. leaving behind wife and kids, family, responsibilities. We partly lock people up so they can’t do anything except sit and stew on the crimes. The caveat is what happens in the afterlife, which no one knows.

He was never sentenced. He was only charged officially on 5 counts like a couple weeks ago. Trial was still some time away.

Why he didn’t cross border illegally to get into mexico…

“Valvani died as an innocent man. Because he passed away before his case was resolved, the court is required to dismiss the charges against him.”

That means he/his family wouldn’t have to pay any penalty? That’s one way to save money for family.

I don’t understand, international laws are so complex which makes lot of criminals to hide in many countries…why didn’t he try that? Stupid.
