fair enough, but what alternate path do you think could have gotten you to where currently are, without the associated slavery?

That's easier said than done. Usually you come to that realization by your late 20s - early 30s. Hard to just switch careers with bills to pay and admitting to yourself that your finance degree was a sunk cost. Not saying it's not possible, but not an easy decision to make. You would also have to predict what sector will be hot enough to get into and put more time and $$$ to obtain expertise in.
