More of an indication of a decline in the quality of reporting than an impressive yarn. Doesn’t sound like it was premeditated. Just a fib that blew up and they went with it. Similar to Facebook.
No disagreement there but on the other hand this is a high school kid. So maybe everyone else who covered the story is an idiot, but he’s still not old enough to vote or buy alcohol yet.
