India - Travel Tips

OP,

Check out “Tantra” in North Goa. I was there last year but cant remember if it’s in Arambol or Ajuna. It’s not a resort type place though. Rather, it’s nice little shacks suspended in the air. Very laid back, hippie vibe.

^ Just watch out for Sting trying to mount you.

Never knew india was known for it’s drugs. I need to make a trip there, get high, and bang some brown honeys.

It would depend what kind of drugs. In line with the spiritual persona it has some excellent psy drugs, i.e Mushrooms, LSD, Hashish, Charas etc. If you have experience with these drugs you will know it is all about set and setting which India is perfect for.

There is a place called Kodaikanal where the mushrooms are grown and sold, it is basically a place where hippie Indians from nearby cities of Bangalore and Chennai come over the weekend, trip on mushrooms and head back. It is overflowing with Israeli hippies who complete their military service and Russian hippies now.

If you prefer drugs like Cocaine, Speed, MDMA then India is not the country for you. As for banging brown women, you will need serious game. You won’t be competing against stereotypical Raj from Big Bang Theory but against local urban males who grew up in a post-modern India where hustle is the name of the game and are westernized enough to realize that cynicism and irony go hand in hand with romanticism.

I’m all about trying the all natural drugs. I stay away from the chemical stuff. Can’t wait to go.

Don’t worry I got SRK level abs.

I know of at least one Indian who would love to suck them.

Well then, You will love the country.

All the drug use definitely adds context to some of the stuff I see here.

First of all, it’s not just ‘white’ guys who try those mind altering drugs. You haven’t been to any such party in Goa, because if you’ll go there, you’ll find it to be the most racially mixed group of people you can ever find on this planet.

Secondly, why such hate for mind altering drugs?

I like you so much, you haven’t tried anything but you have so much curiousity for everything. You seem to be really interesting, irrespective of whether you have tried any drug or not… we’ll surely have a nice discussion, beers on me if you want to meet up for a beer discussion sometime, what say? maybe coffee, if you don’t drink? and yes, I am not joking :).

lols…

RR, Sooraj, Zidhai, batterinram, BangBusDriver, Palantir, jorgeam86 many thanks for the tips.

We’re going in late February until mid March. Flights booked into and out of Delhi as it was a lot lot cheaper than flying in and out of different places.

My wife has a thing against multistop holidays, prefers to go and just stay somewhere and do a few sidetrips here and there. For me, that approach doesn’t make sense as you double up on travel and accommodation expenses. In order to get her to go on a multi stop trip, the compromise is that we’ll spend a week in 1 resort in Goa at the end. Looks likely to be the South. My worse nightmate is a resort where the idea is not to leave the grounds during your trip so I’ll be looking for somewhere that at least has a town with restaurants and bars etc and a few local places to go on day trips to.

I should add that this will almost certainly not be our only trip to India, we plan to return and visit other parts. Kashmir is high on the list as I hear it is stunning. Leh and Ladakh look great. Is Kashmir a safe place for toursists to visit? Kerala, Darjeeling are also on the list. There are a lot of adverts on TV in the UK promoting Tamil Nadu, is it worth a video. The only adverts for travel destinations I see on TV are for Ireland, Malaysia and Tamil Nadu.

My thoughts at the moment for this trip are to do the golden triangle with a bit more exploration around Rajasthan, taking in Jodhpur and Udaipur and then the week in Goa.

If you are going to GOA then don’t miss Rameswaram and Kanyakumari…those places are very nearby…Rameswaram to kanya kumari via train (few hours journey) crossing the Indian Ocean is one of the best moments of my life…You will also find few heavy stones FLOATING in the Indian Ocean as you go from Rameswaram to Kanya kumari…don’t miss it.

All the best for your trip…

I loved Kerala. We stayed in Fort Cochi for a couple of days and then went to Munnar (3hr drive?) to visit the tea plantations and spice gardens. I believe Cochi is a two hour flight from Goa but we had a stopover in Bangalore.

I would have loved to go to Kashmir but, if you’re a foreigner, you need some special type of visa to go to Kashmir and the other contested areas and I believe the process for obtaining such visa was much more arduous.

I’m slightly intrigued by that statement?

My experimentation and psychedelic days are well and truly behind me.

The season in Goa tends to end in January when everyone heads home after New Years. You will be going when everything is winding down, typical season is Aug-Jan. You will need to check the weather forecasts to make sure it is not raining at that time. Goa certainly has bars etc and like mentioned before it has casinos as well as a few sightseeing places. However, a week is again too much. I strongly suggest a detour to Gokarna. Alternatively, you can go to a place called Pondicherry which is basically Goa minus the drugs and decadence. It is a French enclave though and thus extremely bland.

Kashmir should not be high on the list. It should be #1 and yes it is safe for tourists. The insurgency is over and foreigners can travel freely without requiring any special permits. Darjelling is in Bengal and stunning but completely out of the way. Scratch it from your list now and do it while you decide to visit the North East ie Assam etc. Do not miss Kasol, Manali etc in Himachal.

Kerela is superb, it is where the backwaters lie and you can rent a houseboat. There are also two spectacular beaches in Kerela known as Kovalam and Varkala. I can second the Kanyakumari shout.

Tamil Nadu is where the previously mentioned Pondicherry lies as well as having hill stations like Coorg and Ooty. I strongly recommend the toy train experience that follows the Ghat hills. I suggest you change your tickets to fly out from Bangalore as you would be able to visit the areas around Bangalore like Mysore that are the sites for ancient temples etc.

Genuinely lol’d at that. He’d probably stare at you intensely for hours before the actual mounting.

I’m a gringo and spent a half a decade in India. So heres my perspective:

Golden Triangle

Rajasthan

Kashmir - gulmarg has some of the sickest skiing in the world (sometimes)

Karela - backwaters, munnar, parks

You can skip

Goa - Just a cheap tacky place full of shitty tourists. Go there only if you run out of ideas and just want to get drunk on a beach and not spend too much money doing it. Second thought, fly to Thailand and do so there with better: food, infrastructure, people, drugs, etc

Mumbai - almost nothing touristy to see there

Gulmarg and Pahalgam are stunning. However they are at the left top most tip of Kashmir whereas Leh and Ladakh are at the right. The mountainous terrain makes the tavel time from one place to another impossible for you to fit in. Stick to Leh / Ladakh.

If Goa is a must and you aren’t into the drug scene I suggest staying at either Villa Theresa or Chalston Beach Resort of Calangute-Baga road. During the evenings you can rent a moped and take a 20 minute ride to Candolim beach which is littered with Karoke bars and will generally have something going on. Alternatively, you can head to Arambol beach and stay on a beach shack.

If you want to stay in a 5-star resort complete with a private beach Radisson Blu or Leela near Cavelossim in the South is where you should go.

Kodaikanal and Vataikanal in Tamil Nadu are a must if you wish to visit that state.
