Question about CFA Candidate reference on resume

If only everyone else did the same. I get so tired of reading:

  • “Hey everyone–which school should I pick? Harvard, Stanford, or Wharton? I haven’t applied to any of them, and there’s really very little chance that I’ll get in, but I want to ask anyway.”
  • “Here’s my Level 1 study plan, in extreme detail from today all the way up until exam day. Tell me how it looks!”
  • “Is Schweser enough to pass, or should I read CFAI materials?”
  • “Which is better, CFA or [fill in the blank]?”
  • “What’s the best way to break into equity research for Goldman Sachs if I’ve signed up for Level 1, have a degree in sociology from University of Phoenix, and have never worked a job in my life?”

If passing Level 1 really lends any credibility to you, then those making hiring decision probably know what “Passed Level 1 in 2013” means and won’t ding you for it. It’s just the facts.

If you put “I’m a Level 1 CFA and passed on my first attempt, further adding to my ability to outperform non-CFAs like Warren Buffett and Peter Lynch”, then they might frown upon that.
