I liked Omega watch, and the last one is really nice. Why not just quartz Rolex?

I’m not entirely sure on this but I don’t think Rolex makes quartz. Also, Rolex pushes up the price to another level. A decent submariner will easily triple (probably more) the original price point the OP had in mind.

I guess some people think Rolexes are too mainstream, so they want something different. There’s also a non-trivial price difference between Rolex and some of the brands mentioned here. Anyway, true BSDs own this watch: http://www.amazon.com/Zenith-96-0529-4035-Tourbillon-Titanium-Chronograph/dp/B001K3IXW8/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1291910599&sr=8-1 As some of the customer reviews mention: “this watch is more awesome than Chuck Norris riding Godzilla” “As I… viewed the watch for the very first time, I hear the faint sound of angels singing. It was the closest thing to an out of body experience.” “my life has been getting better and better. I hooked up with my ginger best friend’s ginger sister, Oprah is retiring, and I just found out that Morgan Freeman is my real Dad.” “This is the watch Jesus Christ would have worn if Christians believed in time”

I’ve considered a Rolex but they’re not my style. Besides I can’t come up with a reasonable argument to add another watch to my rotation of three. Watches however have a serious fan base, and it’s not uncommon to find dudes who have ten or more Omegas @ $2K-6K each, for instance. Of the two guys running the show in my job, one has as $30K-50K+ Breguet and the other one uses nothing, so it’s a personal preference.

I’ve shared my general rule in life that less is more on several occasions. The trend of cheap watches that have 80 different things on the dial drives me absolutely nuts. If you are spending less than $5,000 on a watch, it should only give you the time, date, and possibly the day. If you want a watch with a chronograph, altimeter, barometer, and thermometer, that goes by the model name “pilot”, “aviator”, or “mariner”, or any other implication that people have worn it on the moon or at the bottom of the ocean or on a Formula 1 racetrack, it better cost more than $5,000. This is of course in regards to purely decorative watches worn in the office or while going out. I have a watch with some of those functionalities that I wear while skiing. I also have a watch with some of those functionalities that I wear while running marathons. Cheap watches with a ton of crap on them look cheap. If you are going to spend a grand on a watch, go with something classy.

I saw the watch and thought “too sporty”, and then I saw the price and changed my mind. I liked the comment that someone bought two watches to get an Amazon gift certificate of 100 dollars. And the other comment that it’s a great deal, and on 58K saved you can buy a car and go to Disneyland. numi Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > mar350 Wrote: > -------------------------------------------------- > ----- > > ohai Wrote: > > > -------------------------------------------------- > > > ----- > > > > > > http://www.amazon.com/Zenith-96-0529-4035-Tourbill > > > > > > > > > on-Titanium-Chronograph/dp/B001K3IXW8/ref=sr_1_1?i > > > > > > e=UTF8&qid=1291910599&sr=8-1 > > > > its on sale! i want 2 > > > my god, the comments on this watch are > epic…niiiice

What about the Rafa Nadal watch. A little bit out of my price range at $525,000, but it looks pretty good. http://www.watchsource.eu/richard-mille/richard-mille-rafael-nadal-rm-027-tourbillon-specs-pictures-price/

my boy has an $89K Tourbillion, just shot me a picture of it, not quite as sweet as the Nadal watch but still gets the job done

I like this comment: 5.0 out of 5 stars Best purchase I ever made, June 30, 2010 By plaidunicorn - See all my reviewsThis review is from: Zenith Men’s 96.0529.4035/51.M Defy Xtreme Tourbillon Titanium Chronograph Watch (Watch) When I first bought this watch I had buyer’s remorse. How could I possibly justify spending $[…] on a watch when I drive a 1992 Ford Festiva don’t even own a home? Then the most amazing this happened. Last night I was out at a bar with some friends. I walked up to the amazingly beautiful woman, and she looked at me, then my watch, and said the most wonderful thing, “Nice Watch.” I took that opening and asked her for her number, and she laughed and told me to go away. Normally women just laugh and tell me to go away, so this was a huge improvement and worth every penny.

A nice watch was one of the first things I bought when I started my career…in my field…everyone wears the same thing… like the same outfit everyday…one of the few areas you can show any style or taste are shoes and watches… and yes people notice… I sold my first watch for 1k to a young doctor and current one is in 3-5k range… you can get a lot for 1k… I am a fan of Rolex and Omega… I just like the classic ones that also have a womens as my watch likes to match

My life got sense, as I have a goal now - Rafa Nadal’s watch

the Omega speedmaster is where it’s at, love at first sight.

I don’t think you have to spend a lot of money to have good taste in watches it just helps. Just like suits. You don’t have to spend $2K on a suit, but if you do, it’s probably going to be pretty nice / fit well. Also, spending less allows you to spread yourself a bit thinner and buy more styles, which lets you stand out a bit more. Blacked out watches are the bomb right now. for example http://limitedhype.com/wp-content/uploads/2009/09/Picture-381-660x534.png If you were going to spend $1K, you’d probably get the standard silver watch. However, if you spend $200-$300 you could get a trendy watch that might stand out as much if not more. Also, another thing to consider (as Numi alluded to inadvertently), is if you’re just getting into watches, you might want to keep it sane on your first purchase as you might not really know what you need to get. Just like numi had some growing pains with his first purchase (without regrets mind you), you may as well.

Might as well wear a blinking light on my head.

I understand the allure of a nice Rolex @ $10K. I don’t understand why anyone would pay $500K for a Robert Mille watch. I guess when there is truly nothing left to splurge on when you’re a baller you look to the ultra high end watches.
