Chalk & Board - Level III Essay Writing - Live Workshop 1
ABOUT THIS COURSE
In this one-day intensive workshop, candidates will learn from one of the premier CFA® instructors in the world, O. Nathan Ronen, CFA. Nathan has 23+ years of experience teaching Levels I, II and III CFA® Program courses, helping thousands of candidates around the world achieve the coveted CFA® designation. Candidates learn through his self-developed philosophy, the Ronen Methodology, “Master the concepts—don’t memorize,” which is transforming the CFA test-prep landscape. The Ronen Methodology is a tried and true approach to best position the candidate for success at each level.
Nathan pioneered the Essay Writing Workshop in 1998 after observing candidates struggling with mastering the curriculum concepts and applying the concepts across the different topic areas to answer CFA® type essays. Answering the essays has been the major hurdle for candidates to pass the Level III exam. Nathan’s objective was to create a CFA® course where candidates could quickly hone their essay writing skills. The 1998 workshop had 25 CFA® candidates. It has grown to over 450 candidates in 2018.
Using the Ronen Methodology, candidates will be coached to dissect essay questions and construct responses with the appropriate level of depth and detail graders are expecting. Nathan’s strong emphasis on essay writing puts candidates in the best possible position to pass the June exam.
Level III Essay Writing Workshop 1 will NOT be recorded, but candidates can contact Chalk & Board and make arrangements to submit their essays for Nathan to personally grade. Domestic and international candidates can also attend the Level III Essay Writing Webinar as the same essays from Workshop 1 will be used in this session.
It is highly recommended that candidates attend Nathan’s live weekly class or recorded lectures prior to taking any of the intensive Level III Essay Writing Workshops. The workshops build on the concepts learned in these sessions with focused-area learning on Level III topics. It is recommended to take at least two of the Essay Writing sessions. Three workshops are offered, including two live workshops featuring different essays and a webinar session to accommodate broader domestic and international markets. The workshops force candidates, for the first time, to put pencil to paper and apply the concepts learned to twenty essays under simulated exam conditions. Each of the essays is graded by Nathan, with value-added comments provided. These workshops put the final touches on a candidate’s preparation strategy.
- Candidates will be given, in exam format, 20 unique CFA® type essays covering topics in the program, such as Individual IPSs, Institutional IPSs, Fixed Income, Derivatives, Equity and other Portfolio Management topics.
- Candidates will craft responses to the 20 CFA® Level III type essays under simulated exam conditions using the Ronen Methodology.
- Candidate essays will be personally graded by Nathan, who provides feedback to show why optimal points were not obtained and discuss key deficiencies so candidates learn how to improve and optimize responses to achieve maximum points on exam day.
- Candidates will receive a formal answer key with explanations and associated Learning Outcome Statements (LOSs) at the end of the workshop.
Access to Nathan: Candidates have 24/7 access to Nathan for questions and answers related to this workshop. In most cases, responses are made by phone. This ensures direct contact with Nathan, so all follow-up questions and candidate concerns are addressed. Nathan’s phone number and email address are available on the Chalk & Board website.
