Hey everyone! Going to Chicago - need recommendations

Hi everyone! I am making my return to the forum and asking for your recommendations. I’m going to Chicago next week for Lollapalooza, but I’ll be there a few days earlier to check out Chi-town. My friends and I are planning to go check our Sears Tower, Second City, and go on the architecture history boat tour, but I’m wondering about some clubs/bars and the night life. Any recommendations? The reco’s for NYC last August were great.

You’re in luck, I was just there. Coupla places - 1. Wrigleyville. At least check the area out if you cannot catch a game. Very pretty field. Decent nightlife of sports bars. 2. Buckingham Fountain - just a huge water fountain worth seeing. 3. Second City - Awesome place, SNL pulls from them alot. 4. Billy Goats - SNL Cheeseburger skit origination (Cheezburger, no FF, chips!) Nightlife - Hit up Rush & Division, pretty classy area where the corporate ballers hang out. You’re so money Aliman and you don’t even know it.

Not sure what type of scene you are looking for. Rush & Division (viagra triangle) is the more yuppie baller type bars if that is your scene. Bucktown/Wicker Park has some cool dive bars. It is more of the hipster scene but don’t let that deter you. The Rainbow Room (no it’s not a gay bar) on Damen is a really chill bar. And Wrigleyville (where I live) has the sports bar scene. You can’t really go wrong on any of the three. If you want the best burger in Chicago, hit up Kuma’s Corner (Belmont & California). It’s a heavy metal bar that has awesome burgers, definitely worth the wait. Smoke has great tasting pork, ribs, etc. Downtown, like suggested above by Quant, the Billy Goat is a must visit. The triple cheeseburger (or quadruple if you ask - it’s not on the menu) and a Billy Goat dark is a tastey meal. They have more locations (one by the CBOT down the street from my office) and they do sell fries there, but the originial on Michigan ave (under it actually) is the best. Hopefully this helps. If you have more specific questions holler at me PM. m

Wow, thanks for the tips guys - really appreciated. I think it will be a nice balance to check out some i-banker clubs in addition to the hipster places like I did with phil.platt last year in NYC. Hopefully, this is a solid trip. I feel like getting a heart attack from burgers.

phill.platt Isn’t he the guy that worked at IBM…? :-o

there’s a place called Roof at state and lake that had a healthy line outside everytime i passed it. s/b worth a look. there was a post earlier about the town with a lot of places, too.

Aliman!! What’s the deal buddy?? Long time no speak. You take lvl 3? I just passed lvl 2. Well hope all is well. Enjoy Chicago

Hey JP, good to hear from you and congrats. Yeah I wrote level 3, but I barely studied. We have to crush this thing next year!

Stay hopeful man. BUT if u didn’t do it this time, we’ll destroy it 2gether next June, without a doubt.

nah nah nah. That was well within the realm of not being bromance.
