Interesting story: Game simulates poverrty

When the market is a bit calmer, I want to see how this game works out: http://www.marketwatch.com/story/poverty-isnt-just-a-game-2011-09-23?link=MW_story_investinginsight Here’s the game link: http://www.playspent.org/

I lasted 5 days. Knew I shouldn’t have spent that $350 on my best friend’s wedding…

Very good article. I’ll have to play the game later on. On a side note, one of the suggested stories at the bottom of the page: http://www.marketwatch.com/story/peta-to-roll-out-porn-site-2011-09-20?Link=obinsite Really?? …I might have to check it out though, too curious to see how it is. I also like the acronym at the bottom of the page in the comments section: peta = people eating tasty animals.

I lasted about a month but those are too many problems in one month. Plus where is the option to sell my car and take public transportation or car pool?

Made it through the month with $68 left, but made some pretty brutal choices, and rent was due the next day. A very nicely done game, though they definitely throw the kitchen sink at you in terms of giving you tons of difficult decisions without a lot of flexibility in how you approach them [i.e. selling your car, etc].

Balance at the end of the month: $768

$289

Damn… I failed the typing test.

Stupid. Might as well make a game at rich.org where you get a series of extremely lucky breaks every other day and you start the month with $0 and end it with $50,000,000.

$626 I failed the typing test, too. Why can you only donate plasma once in a month? In college, I donated twice a week and made $200 per month off that.

I don’t think realism is the main point. They are trying to increase exposure to problems faced by low income people through those messages that come out whenever you make a decision.

I survived. Where’s the option to sell your body for sex? That’s what I would do if I were a single mother.
