Product structuring

Ive been looking at this area recently, and maybe I am wrong, but it looks really cool, as in it would mean generating lots of ideas and use a lot of creativity, which I think i’d really enjoy.

However, Im wondering, how difficult is it to get into this area without experience? Me thinks its probably very difficult? Especially if you havent really worked with these kinds of products in your day to day job before.

Structuring is similar to sales. Generally, the goal is to design a financial product that is appealing from a marketing perspective, but is actually cheap in value. The goal of financial products desks, after all, is to recognize a trading gain or commission from selling such products. I don’t think the barriers to entry are higher than in any other finance job. However, it would probably help if you had experience with the asset class that they work with.
