Applying to the same firm twice

Sort of a two pronged question here. First of all, if a company has two postings up and you’re interested in both, would you send in two separate applications?

Or, if you failed to get one position, would you feel wierd sending in an application a month later for a similar job positing at the same firm?

I would not feel weird applying for both. Unless you make it to final rounds, I doubt that the HR person will even realize you applied for both. They get 100 resumes and throw 98 out at once.

Not weird. Just make sure they don’t totally contradict.

Don’t apply for banking and write it’s your dream job, and then apply for research and say the same.

feel free to ask the HR contact if they think you may be better qualified for another position… they want you to get hired… its their job to fill open positions with the best qualified candidates… so assuming you are qualified, they are there to help

Better to apply one at a time. You might be seen as unfocused.
