4 year back office veteran, looking to get out

I graduated and made the mistake of spending the next 4 years in the back office as a fund accountant. I realize that was a big career mistake. In most recruiters eyes, I am pigeonholed as a back office technician.

What can I do to get out? I realize that anything FO is going to be a long shot. But I’m not 30 yet soI won’t give up on that dream for another 10 years.

I was thinking about taking 1 or 2 levels of CFA just to show that I’m not an idiot. Maybe start writing for seekingalpha to show my creative side.

I could also get a master’s in finance or MBA.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

a top MBA could be a way out, although pricey

other than that, you’re goign to have a lot of hustling and networking to do

what took you so long to get going on your CFA? Get your career goals together and a personal assessment done and consider your chances at a good mba.

BO is a big obstacle. Try moving internally first, even if it’s just to ‘MO’. Even though most MO isn’t really MO. They just tell you that b.c aspiring BO people want it.

+1, Emphasis on hustle and networking
