Quants

Has anyone gone to the Jobs function on bloomberg recently? Looks to me like the jobs page is innundated with firms looking for quant analysts or traders. Curious as to whether or not you guys think that’s just the nature of bloomberg jobs page or if this is a trend; that anlaysts and traders who want to work in asset management/ hedge funds are going to have to learn to become coding or programming experts. I.e. in 5-10 years will obtaining a CFA be diluted by the fact you have little experience in programming languages? Thanks.

Quantitative understanding will become a larger and larger component of investment management. The plummeting price of computing horsepower has inevitably led to Big Data; what makes this industry different from other industries using this technology? Whether in whole or in part, quant solutions can at least provide a cross-check of any fundamental output. Investors that rely on their “good judgment” and “gut feeling” are a tiresome bunch to listen to when they are trying to convince you that they just know things. Don’t ask them about the trend in the demand for quant skills…just like you wouldn’t have asked a professional horse and buggy operator his thoughts on whether the automobile is just a trend.

its already happening.in 5 years if you dont know a programming language you will be left behind

Can’t we just use Eviews, and not having to learn R.

If it was 1998, Eviews would suffice.
