Yesterday’s announcement in my mind confirmed what I had believed all along despite the Wilpon’s public positions - that they had been very much harmed (if not from immediate loss than through potential exposure (clawback, other) and that this reduced financial strength and flexibility would absolutely effect their capacity to fund Met operations especially as against the Yankees and Phillies team positions (both baseball and otherwise) that serve as such convenient benchmarks. I have been fervently hoping for ownership change and I am strenuously hoping that this unfortunate circumstance (I am symphathetic to them of course) can trigger such a change. I do not think they have always been straight with their fans (not that every owner is). It will be interesting to see how this plays out.
I thought what Madoff did was definitely not cool.
