Not Giving Two Weeks Notice When Taking New Job

I want to know if there is anyone who has or know someone who has switched jobs didn’t give two weeks notice. I am very tempted to not give two weeks notice as a professional courtesy and just give my resignation and leave. My boss (who is the head of the company) is a complete dick and I don’t want to give him that courtesy. Does anyone know if that has backfired on anyone?

As you will find out, the financial service circle is very small, the higher you progress in your career, the circle will become smaller. I would recommend not to burn any bridges and offer your two weeks advance notice. HOWEVER, in this industry, I have never seen employer ever took the two weeks notice, they typically wants you out asap. Therefore, you will still get what you want anyway. Good luck

Always give two weeks. Just because your boss is a jerk doesn’t mean you should be one too.

And, yes, it’ll probably come back to bite you later in life.

#TotalRecall

I will more than likely give him proper notice, but in terms of it coming back to bite me in the ass if I don’t give proper notice, does it make any difference if the company I am at is a really small RIA? The RIA only has three employees one Financial Advisor (My boss, the dick), one assistant and a Portfolio Manager (Me) and an AUM of $40 million.

Take the high road on this one. Your soon-to-ex boss is not worth the aggravation.

I believe that officially if you quit without giving notice, they can actually officially fire you. In which case yes it can bite you in the ass. That’s usually not an issue when relationships are good at work, but it sounds like yours is a bit hostile so I’d give the 2 weeks.

Would laugh so hard if your new employer found out you did this and then decided to rescind your employment offer.

That would be the ultimate self cucking of the century.

Move on with no regrets, you may need a ref in the future…,

Why would you not show up for those two weeks? Since you won’t give a crap about the work, you can just sit there and look at porn all day while collecting a paycheck. It’s like a vacation.

If I were in your shoes, I’d give the dude the two weeks notice.

Its not really a big deal to endure a couple weeks more of work.

The dude you work for may know more people than you think, and it’s better to have less enemies in town

Even if you hate your boss, give him no reason to hate you back. You’ll slam your head into the wall if karma ever bites you in the ass because of this.

Dang, I’ve been out of USA so long I don’t remember. In Australia it’s four weeks notice. You usually have some room to agree a date if you have annual leave but i would rather get my annual leave paid out.

you should always give notice. You will be told to go go home that day and not return, plus paid your two weeks. That’s what happened to me before I came to Aus.

I guess the plus side in Aus is that you get a minimum of four weeks annual leave per year.

Sounds like OP went off the mark.

haha my work contract stipulates 3 months (yes, months…not weeks) notice from me if I’d ever decide to leave my company. Then again, this is France so my employer can’t really fire me unless I do a few “faut graves” which translates, more or less, to “a colossal fuck-up”.

But yeah, I wouldn’t recommend burning any bridges on your way out, whatever the size of the company…these kinds of things usual come to haunt you later in life.

So, you have to give 3 months notice, or… they fire you?

No, if I want to terminate my contract, I’ll need to give a 3 month notice.

But the employer can’t terminate the contract unless the employee has made “severe mistakes” and has received official warnings due to said mistakes. Long story short, it’s really difficult to fire anyone in a french company.

What happens if you don’t show up for the 3 months? Do they hire people to beat you?

They don’t have any stick to enforce the 3 month rule (besides maybe withholding outstanding compensation such as unpaid vacation days). Won’t be worth the time and hassle suing you. It’ll guarantee you’ll never work for them again.

Rumor has it that they chase you down and hit you on the noggin with a day old baguette.
