Standard I (C) - Misrepresentation

Hi everyone,

Quick question on Standard I ©. Wouldn’t statistics from the World Bank and other central bank qualify as information that need not be cited in research reports? I thought crediting sources was not required when using projections or statistics from recognized sources. As per CFAI:“Attribute to their sources any direct quotations, including projections, tables, statistics, model/product ideas, and new methodologies prepared by persons other than recognized financial and statistical reporting services or similar sources.” (P. 75 in Ethics book). When they say financial/statistical services do they mean services such as Bloomberg or Morningstar? The World Bank would not qualify?

thanks!

World bank, local statistical institutes, IMF, OECD are government sponsored/run. I believe in your case, using information from these sources would be fine and not a breac hof I©. However, using research from private entities, even if public, such as Morningstar, Thomson-Reuters and etc. without a reference, would be considered a breach. Would be interested ot hear more opinions on this too.
