null hypothesis

In the reading of 12.2, it says:

The null hypothesis is a proposition that is considered true unless the sample we use to conduct it gives convincing evidence it is false.

So why is this statement wrong:

The null hypothesis is the condition a researcher hopes to support?

The default assumption is that the null hypothesis is true. If you want to support it, don’t do any research.

The purpose of the research is to try to determine if there are sufficient data to refute the null hypothesis. The researcher hopes that the null hypothesis is wrong, and hopes that the data collected will lead to a rejection of the null hypothesis.

Null isn’t the condition you hope to support. In fact, it is usually the other way (unless you’re talking about error correlation - but let’s get into that later during the level 2.)

Null is usually set in such a way, that researches hopes to reject the same.
