Why temporal for super inflationary subsidiary

For USGAAP, I understand the rule is to go temporal for a high-inflationary subsidiary. Is the reason becaues if current rate is used, it would make the parent company look bad on the books?

In particular, fixed assets will appear to decrease in value markedly.
