nerds at the exam?

During the 2 hour break between the morning session and afternoon session, I couldn’t help but overhear a conversation that was going on at the table next to me. A group of guys, who I can only describe as genuine nerds, were talking about how the recommended amount of studying of 250 hours is vastly exaggerated. They were in agreement that this was way too much time and how they only needed something like 100 hours. I don’t know about you, but maybe I’m slow and I feel like I definitely need the full 250 or more hours to get all this material into my head. Do you think that these people genuinely thought that? Or were they just talking out of their a__?

Based on what you hear from the “chatters” at the exam, they aced the exam, it only took them 2 hours to study and they’re dating supermodels. The worst part of the exam is leaving and hearing everybody recollect every question. Me personally, I jetted out of there and was well on my way to inebriation within a half hour of the exam.

Sounds like they are talking big now but need to see where they are come results-time. I’m sure some people could do this. Personally I studied for a little over 300 hours and felt strapped for time at the end.

programmer, lucky you are…nerds… I was sitting in the first row… 25% of the girls that passed by were dressed like h00kers, no joking. very disturbing trend I thought myself and tried to concentrate on exam

You COULD technically pass w/o studying… I personally only used about 150 hours for L1 and L2 BUT both times have felt that my grade will be between 65-69. I suppose that extra 100 hours would allow me to actually do some problems instead of just memorize concepts but I don’t really have that kind of time and I lack the motivation to study until the last week or so. I’m only 22 and hopefully have passed L2. I still need 3.5 years more work experience before I get the designation anyway, so why not try to get by with the least amount of time and money spent? I’m also one of those guys who only used the CFAI texts. I don’t think that studying less is nerdy, wouldn’t studying more be nerdy? I mean, I had an extra 100 hours of debauchery, whereas you were in a room studying. Talk about a nerd.

haah, where did you take your exam papasita in nyc 42nd st ? in 1982 lol

NEEERRRRDDDDSSSSSSS!!! if you are taking the exam time to face reality. you are a nerd too.

okay i meant these are like super nerds… the kinds that attend rennaisance faire and star wars conventions… and play magic the gathering on their free time.

I took the LII exam in DC and I did not see one decent looking female. I’d like to find a hot girl who is a CFA and rides a Harley… any ideas where I can find one?

zoser55, it may sound funny but I am serious. In addition to the category I mentioned above, there was a bunch of grandmas (quite old ladies) that took exam. may they were real nerds. and yes, their outfit was from 1982 or so. Combine both together: well, my blood pressure was not the only thing that was going up and down. CFAI should enforce dress code for exam. If not, then atleast allow to change assinged seat…

Anyone else think it’s funny that someone would use their spare time to post on a message board about how nerdy someone else is for not studying much? That’s not an insult–just an observation. Regarding the 250 hours, I think it’s a bit high. Lots of people on this board disagree because this board tends to attract an above average crowd.

We all have different hobbies in our spare time (or lack thereof). Unless it affects our ability to do this exam or our job performance, who cares? Also, you noted that they were saying/bragging about this during the lunch period… which was before most of us got murdered by the PM exam. When you’re feeling confident/cocky, things tend can be exaggerated.

I study a smaller number of hours, therefore I have a larger p3nis. QED

Such freakin’ ridiculous lying nerd lies. (or more likely, taking numbers out of context to appear to have larger p3nises) Truthfully, I got ~1500/1600 on my GREs, put in more than the recommended number of hours, and “still” don’t feel like I own the material completely. Not saying that GREs mean too much nor that I’m a genius, but I highly doubt those guys are much smarter or more efficient studiers than I am. Perhaps when they say 100 hours, they don’t count the thousands of hours of work experience and/or academic courses.

Boston would you say…in your past experiences…that studying is more effective than Viagra?

Well, according to those nerds…“lack” of studying is supposed to be more effective than Viagra, lol.

why…thats a fine assessment…if CFA doesn’t work, I hear you get more hours to take the MCAT

heh, I’m from Vancouver, Canada but I ended up (due to the formula 1 race) writing my exam in Montreal. ohhh myyyy goodness, way too many good looking girls. 3 chicks in front of me with their thongs hanging out of their tight low rise jeans… just not right. Needless to say, if i pass (please), I might just have to go out there to write level 3.
