I seated for Level 3 last weekend. During the AM session after I signed the pledge, I was a little bored and nervous so I tried to calm myself down by actually reading the pledge (I know…). But then I missed the poctor saying please close your booklet, and I kept on reading, until one proctor came over and closed the book for me. She did not say anything and did not even mention that she would report this to CFAI, and after that she just walked away. I waited until clear instruction to proceed to the actual question/essay page.
I was sure at that time I was not in danger since I did not flip the page and the questions were pages behind, I put down my pen after signing the pledge, and I showed no intent to start early or whatever.
But now I am not so sure after reading all these crazy stories about others who were declared violation but were not aware of that during the test. There were some command word explanation and weights of each part right besides the pledge, and I am not sure whether we are allowed to view those, after all anyone can definitely see those if they open the pledge page.
Tell me about it… there was a guy one row over/behind me who was having a panic attack/wheezing/coughing the ENTIRE PM section… I definitely shot him dirty looks on one or two occasions… now after reading this board, I am terrified that the proctor will “write me up”
Lol
Do they have to notify you or anything? I’d imagine I would at least get some sort of warning?
I hope you are fine. CFAI is quite strict when it comes to exams condition, to ensure equality to all candidates.
Last year, I took my level iii exams at the same time with my friend. She sat right behind me. Then after they said stop writing, she didn’t drop the pen immediately, but try to finish the very last words of the answer. A proctor came straight to her to stop her from writing, which she did. I thought she would have been fine then, but when the answer was released, it turned out that her exams was void.
Don’t want to imply your case would be the same. I am just telling a fact for your reference. It happened anyway, so just let it be.
The proctor said absolutely nothing, not even a word. She just came over and closed my book. But for your situation, I have read many that got reported without being warmed or notified. I don’t know whether they are supposed to notify you during the exam.
Thanks. If I were in your friend’s shoes, I would know I am definitely screwed. She was still writing after they called it off. My case is somewhat different. But it is this uncertainty that kills me.
The problem is that the proctors have too much weight. You are assummed guilty. Maybe the proctor didn’t like the way you looked or thought you were “snarky” and just wrote you up.
There should be a better process on violations. Sending people notices 6 weeks after an exam when they had no idea that they did anything wrong during the exam is bogus. You should be given a chance that day to discuss something. Isn’t there a CFA Charterholder represented at each test center? You should be given a chance to talk to him or her on an instance.
What are the odds of “winning” a violation case? I expect not much.
