L3 doable if only 15% in and being offered a contract?

Guys,

Advise needed plz. Moved back to Toronto 2 mths ago. Im maybe 15% into the material for L3 for june. Recently just started studying. Was going in Full time study mode so wasnt worried too much.

Casually interviewing since I came back. Canadian Securities Exchange offered a $30/hr 6 mth contract today.

I know taking up on a contract means no paid vacation. I wont be able to get the 1 or 2 weeks off before exam day. The contract will most likely not get extended either because Im replacing a person who is undergoing surgery. So he does expect to return.

I feel if i take up on this offer, I will def mess up the exam. Lately, ive been convincing myself to ease up on job apps and focus full time on L3 until June. And THEN resume fulltime job search.

Option A: Continue studying fulltime. Higher chance of passing than starting a new role which is only a 6 mth contract.

Option B: Take the roll because experience is King. Probably flunk the exam in june and write it next june.

P.S. a CFA is pretty meaningless in Toronto. It’s more of you are and who you know.

KINDLY advise me plz. They need to hear from me soon. Below is the job description. Let me know if it’d be worth it.

My advice: Take the job for relevant work experience with a reputable employer. The experience could even be a small proxy for studying since you’ll be exposed to a new area of the industry.

Don’t admit defeat on the exam yet. There’s still ample time to study on nights/lunch breaks and weekends.

Take the job, even if it 's contract work you’d get to know the people there and you never know where it could lead you. Besides, if you use your free time wisely you still have enough time. You probably won’t have a life for the next 3 months but sacrifices have to be made. If possible take one week off before the exam.

thank you guys. appreciate it.

Hi there,

I thought about moving back to Toronto as well so I am trying to put myself into your shoes.

I would take the job because you have just moved back and getting yourself back into the ring quickly is important. Build some connections and just study like mad, hoping for the best. Good Luck!
