I’d like to begin study for Level 3 as soon as possible. My friends gave me his 2017 CFAI textbooks for free, but I wonder if they’re still up to date to prepare for 2020.

no, too much has changed… you would be studying with a deficient on some newer material, and wasting time on some older material no longer tested.
Definitely not, major changes this year and good number of changes last year… once you register you will get e book link you can hit the ground running right away if you want to but Its way too early in my opinion…
I believe you can buy online access to the book before registration and then get a credit at registration. Or, you can simply register now…
