I dont know if I am just dumb, but I just cant seem to find where the option is to get automatic emails everytime someone posts on a thread that you either started or commented on. I assume that should be available?

I don’t think that there is an option for automatic emails except when receiving private messages. To follow a thread, click the “Bookmark” link on the first post of any thread. Then you’ll have to check back in under “My Bookmarks” to see if there are any updates.
