Ryder Cup

"Team USA have only won five of the last 16 Ryder Cups. Four of those five victories have come on home soil. For the Americans to stand a chance of winning, they need their baying mob of imbeciles to caress their egos every step of the way. Like one of those brainless bastards from your childhood they only have the courage to keg you if they’re backed up by a giggling group of reprobates. Team Europe needs to shut those groupies up.

They need to silence the pudgy, basement-dwelling, irritants, stuffed on cookie dough and pissy beer, pausing between mouthfuls of hotdog so they can scream ‘Baba booey’ until their jelly faces turn red.

They need to stun the angry, unwashed, Make America Great Again swarm, desperately gripping their concealed-carry compensators and belting out a mini-erection inducing ‘mashed potato,’ hoping to impress their cousin.

They need to smash the obnoxious dads, with their shiny teeth, Lego man hair, medicated ex-wives, and resentful children. Squeezed into their cargo shorts and boating shoes, they’ll bellow ‘get in the hole’ whilst high-fiving all the other members of the Dentists’ Big Game Hunt Society."

Game on, gents.

Haha this is fantastic! Love the ribbing in the build up to the Ryder Cup, makes the event that much more fun.

Based on the form of the Euro team, I think it’s an easy win. None of the Americans have had a particularly good year except DJ, and his last round at the Tour was disappointing.

Most of Team USA really doesn’t give a crap, so Europe 15, USA 13. DL3 gets shot by one of the imbeciles because he is the embodiment of everything that is wrong with Team USA and golf in general.

America wins going away (at least 2 pts). The European team is not nearly as strong as it’s been in recent times, especially the back half of the team, and 6 RC rookies to boot. The home field advantage is worth at least a point or two. I also liked the 12th selection being so close to the event, and Moore is an accomplished match play player that has arguably outplayed every other professional golfer since the conclusion of the PGA Championship (there are stats that support this comment).

I was on board with all of it until this. Do they not sell toothbrushes in Europe?

Let’s not forget that he’s from the UK.

Me

oh its on Limeys. Spieth, DJ, and Co. are gonna smoke you blokes.

I’m going tomorrow but had to sell my weekend tickets because the wife and kids and I are going on vacation. I had to sell them for face value too, because her cousin wanted them.

This will be my 3rd time at Hazeltine for a big time event. Rich Beem and YE Yang won the first two events I went to here, so I fully expect some hacksaw outfit like Europe to win this time.

I think it is the opposite Higgs. Team USA wants to win the Ryder Cup so much they set up a task force and a pod system to try to win this event. All the American players care about the Ryder Cup I don’t think there is any question about that. They almost want it too much it seems to me. I want to see the Euros win it again to see what the Americans will do next. Bring back Tiger!

Why play this in freezing cold Minnesota? This seems to be more of an advantage for the Euros who are more used to playing in colder conditions. I don’t see the home course advantage being worth any points at all.

It’s late September and the 1st of October and the forecasted highs for each day of the tournament are 66-70 degrees F. If that’s freezing cold, I’d suggesting talking to your doctor about low T.

I think the Americans not caring too much about the RC used to be a problem in the late 1990’s and 2000’s b/c they were making so much money and had been winning the RC for so many years; the RC simply was not a priority for the US team. Obviously they continue to make gobs and gobs of money today, but now they have played poorly in so many recent RC’s and I think that is really motivating them to do well this time around. They’ve reached the point of aggravation and possibly even anger at getting asked again and again about their poor records in recent RC’s, they are ready to shut their critics up.

Okay not freezing cold but still colder conditions than the mollycoddled Americans are used to. I see these conditions as more of an advantage for the Euros.

Chance explains the Ryder Cup record. I love how everyone tries to create a narrative to explain the results. The breaks of the game. Just as a casino can have a losing month.

^ Is that the line you use to describe your consistent 4th quartile returns to clients?

I’d say that most of Europe’s teeth are ok it’s just us Brits that let the side down on that front. On a personal level I just love red wine and coffee more than I’m bothered about my teeth

When necessary. Good handicapping is the value added, the results tell you very little about if the proper decisions were made. Very difficult to demonstrate that good handicapping was performed. That’s why we revert to talking about past performance when it is meaningless going forward. If you and I sit and play blackjack, you may lose less or make more money than me, but I’m confident I will have made better decisions. In a game of repeating numbers, I can unequivocally show my superior skills. In markets, the numbers are not repeating and they do not fit any stable distribution. Almost impossible to determine with certainty who made a better decision. All we can do is try to identify skill sets that lead to better handicapping and stake those that possess those skill sets.
