10-term Congressman Crowley defeated by 28-year-old activist, hot chick

Huh? Trump is trolling Democrats into kicking out their older, more moderate members in favor of socialists. So much for “blue wave”.

She smoked him because he sucks. He’s hasn’t seen a challenger in 14 years lives in DC and has been playing national politics but he’s house of representatives not a senator. Barely campaigned, showed up at the first debate and stammered around then skipped the other three of the four debates and sent a latina woman who wasn’t even on his staff as a proxy to one of them despite being at an event 20 minutes away. He just poured fuel on the fire by failing to engage her directly. He pulled a Hillary and rightfully got crushed.

Also this girl is in her 20’s, an identity politics coup with a cult of personality following similar to Warren and Sanders but 1/3 their age and with 10x the charisma who looks like a movie star. She is going places 100%.

Her video was sick.

Ocasio-Cortez won the race for New York’s 14th Congressional District with a substantial margin over Crowley. The Bronx native, who has not previously run for elected office, is the first primary challenge Crowley has seen in 14 years.

Ocasio-Cortez’s grassroots campaign raised just $300,000 to Crowley’s war chest of $3,354,370, but garnered significant attention for her campaign announcement video, which went viral.

Crowley had been mentioned as a potential candidate for Speaker of the House, should Democrats retake the House of Representatives.

The congressman came under fire this week for sending a proxy on Monday to debate Ocasio-Cortez on his behalf. The surrogate, former New York City Councilwoman Annabel Palma, was not a staff member on Crowley’s campaign, but a commissioner in the office of Mayor Bill De Blasio.

In an opinion piece last week, the New York Times Editorial Board – which did not make an endorsement in the race – chastised Crowley’s decision to skip the debate. Ocasio-Cortez, whose mother is Puerto Rican, told ABC News she found the choice to send a Latina surrogate “bizarre,” and noting that Crowley was just minutes away from the debate, attending an event in Queens.

“He didn’t show up to the Bronx,” she told ABC News. “What it gets interpreted as is absentee leadership, it’s leadership that fundamentally does not care about or understand our community.”

“The fact that he was 20 minutes away just added salt to the wound for Bronx and Queens families. And it really just sent a very clear message that he just didn’t care to be there,” she told ABC News.

Yes, but this year was also special. Why didn’t he lose in the past 9 elections? Presumably, he was half @ssed in some of those previous years too. Why did he lose to a Latina woman? Trump enraging the liberal wing definitely played a part in this.

Nobody has challenged him in the primaries in 14 years. He ran uncontested.

Quit cluttering the WC ohai, I posted about this already. Also- I cannot issue a final verdict on the Hot or Not question yet. She looks like a 5 in some pictures and an 8 in others.

So why was he contested this year? More Democrats running because of Trump is a real observed effect. Look, people are mad this time. Those Democrats want change because they are upset. Why disagree with this?

^agreed. i would say she is a 7 tops. most likely a 6. would i holler? yes most definitely, but just for a grind. would prolly not call.

This is going to sound like semantics, but I mean this is me talking so its going to be semantics. Basically what I’m trying to say is that this isn’t because of Trump, I think its because of the same drivers that propelled Trump. You’re right, people are upset and people want change. But I think it’s universal and because of the economic pressure on the middle and it applies equally to both parties. The difference is in the last election Bernie (the left’s Trump equivalent) was rising in parallel based on the same drivers as Trump applied differently and the Democrats suppressed him with the super delegate vote and a rigged primary. As a result, Trump ran against he establishment and won. Now after a brief delay we’re seeing this same rise occur in the democrat party.

That said, I also think this is a case of one and its early to over-extrapolate this. This guy was an absentee House member who had long since abandoned his district and it came home to roost driven by an increasingly unaffordasble NYC.

It a common theme this year: dems railing against the DCCC and their money/donation driven campaigns and the “Hillarys” that represent them. Some of it is Trump, some of it is Hillary’s campaign. Trump proved that the Hillary, down the middle, raise as much money as possible from special interests approach does necessarily work.

“I pledge not to take contributions from the oil, gas, and coal industry and instead prioritize the health of our families, climate, and democracy over fossil fuel industry profits.”

–written on a piece of cardboard that used to be a tree (but was cut down by a fossil-fuel powered saw), with a marker made from petroleum products, while standing in a room heated by coal, and with electricity provided by coal.

Trees are renewable and beyond that you’re largely missing the forest for the trees in this one. Also coal only provides less than 1% of electricity in New York State. Pretty sure nobody is heating anything in NYC right now and since it isn’t 1905 I’m sure it’s not from a coal furnace. I’m gonna be honest Greenie, probably one of your weakest posts.

I like her. Don’t necessarily agree with all of her points and might be swayed by dreamy demeanor but I do like the general premise. We could do worse than having a few more Mr. Smith go to Washington types involved.

Abolish ICE… while your at it just abolish all law enforcement, what good are laws anyway? Then lets take all the money from tax paying Americans and hand it over to the flood of immigrants illegally crossing our border. Great platform, bring on the socialism and lets burn this MFer to the ground.

Yinz are missing the point. Obviously some of these things aren’t going to happen. She’s one of 435 people in the House of Reps, stop getting your panties in a bunch. It’s hardly the most loony thing out there in government but if you average it out, a federal government formed of fresh perspectives without as much established corporate interests is clearly better than a bunch of entrenched insipid career politicians taking handouts. It’s not like we’re talking about voting inexperienced loony conspiracy theorists into the White House that want to abolish the EPA.

these illegal immigrants are criminals. they violated the law. lets not coddle these opportunists. shes very idealistic though. whats the point of protection people that cant vote?

your western PA roots are showing!

Yinz are missing the sarcasm. I am rooting for this bright eyed and bushy tailed youngster. I also encourage each citizen to vote in the craziest fringiest nutjobs from both sides of the aisle. It’s called gridlock, and I am of the mind that the more time these useless politicians waste fighting each other the less they can actually get done and the less they get done the more dollars I keep in my pocket.

Also, almost every career politician got to where they are by first offering fresh perspectives- and then the corporate interests sunk their teeth in. This is why there needs to be term limits. I’m not holding my breath for that.

after a few margaritas shell jump a few points for you and get turned up.

i agree she aint a super model that you usually hollar at according to rawraw

^ BS is 100% correct, and everyone should be quiet and re-read that (especially Ohai, who still doesn’t get it).

Revolution grows across the kingdom. The mob is pissed, not the “left/right,” the entire country. That’s why you got Bannon/Trump/Bernie. And that’s why this just happened.

The problem is the mob has no clue what they are even fighting (corporatism), and so can’t win. All big events like this are triggered by bad economic times (Maoist China, Stalinist Russia, Nazi Germany), which is why now (times are bad, the econ numbers are fabricated to cover up). But it has been building up for decades.

On one side they’ll keep pushing for Bernie socialists, on the other Breitbart nationalists. But all roads lead to more corporatism, because voting for a person DOES NOT give them the ability in DC to overpower the S&P500 (which is a $25T oligopoly cluster with a strangle hold on government)…and so change won’t happen…and the mob will get MORE pissed.

Something is going to break eventually, probably WW3 or revolutionary/civil war.

If the numbers are fabricated, how do we know the economy is bad?
