What things have you bought that were more useful than you thought?

  1. Dyson hand held vacuum - far better than normal, big vacuum, provided you can clean your house in 8 minutes or less. Use this mofo every day now.

  2. One good kitchen knife and sharpening tools - makes cooking much more pleasant and high quality. Can pretend to be the wolverine.

What other tools or items have you put to good use? Tanks.

  1. Crocs. Perfect indoor/outdoor shoe during summertime.

  2. Personal budgeting app. Hugely effective in tracking where your money is going. I also get some perverse pleasure from doing monthly accounting.

  3. Mini-fan on my desk at work. I sweat like a pig after working out, so having a fan on my desk saves me from needing to change shirts at work.

Teva sandals I bought are legitimately useful so far. It improves my going out time by like 30 seconds, or however long it takes to put on normal shoes and socks. They’re probably good until people start salting the roads. Feet don’t get cold, amiright?

On a possibly related note, I saw the first chick in Canadian Goose jacket the other day, when temperature hit like 60 degrees. I guess after you pay $800 for that coat, you should wear it whenever possible…

Elaborate please?

Is it better than the hypodronic stuff?

I acquired a used jura espresso machine, it’s about $1k. 75% of the days my wife and I drink morning espresso at home resulting in ~$3 cost avoided per day per person, less corresponding variable expenses associated with curated beans from sustainable farms in Guatemala or Costa Rica, over a 3-year running period has produced IRR in excess of VC-like returns and splendid rich, golden crema without the need to waste time grinding the coffee and tamping it to perfection. I am now facing hopefully minor CAPEX outlay related to a malfunctioning brew group mechanism, but remain optimistic about the long-term prospects and viability of my strategic positioning within the coffee retail marketplace.

Ah tank man!

amazon prime is amazing. it does same day delivery, so if you ever need plan b. amazon got you

I’ve always been ID’d when I buy that though. How does amazon handle that?

I’ve been using Jet.com quite frequently lately, to the point that it is a legitimate rival to Amazon for me. Supposedly, Jet calculates fulfillment cost based on your location and the product’s location, and makes that a factor in the price. As a result, their pricing is often more competitive than Amazon’s. Maybe it’s time to go long WMT. Their website still sucks, but that can be fixed.

  1. Davek umbrella (comes with a life-time unconditional guarantee). It’s a bit heavy but works really well.

  2. A pro-quality blender. An absolute beast and can mix 1/2 gallon of smoothie in a matter of minutes. I drink 1-3 smoothies per day so the blender is in constant use.

  3. High-quality headphones. I used to take the metro to work so being able to listen to classical music in a peaceful bliss was awesome.

  4. Amazon kindle. I end up reading so much more than before since kindle fits so many books and it’s so easy to fit in a bag etc.
