Trump train derailing outside of Arlington

https://edition.cnn.com/2018/11/19/politics/stanley-mcchrystal-donald-trump-military-cnntv/index.html

Even Stanley McChrystal is trashing DJT. Trump has survived a lot of stuff I thought would sink him: childish name calling, insulting women’s looks, the pathological lying, grabbing women by the P, sex with porn stars who he later called horse faced, sex with playmate while his wife is prego, not releasing his taxes, siding with Russia against US intelligence agencies, siding with Russia against proven Euro allies, trashing NATO, cozying up with KJU over proven Japan and South Korean allies, guilty pleas from over 30 people in connection with Russian election meddling, calling Mexicans rapists, Ivanka using her personal email, Jared revising his financial disclosure form 50 times, etc

None of that seemed to matter. Ditching Arlington on Vet Day, skipping Normandy cemeteries cause of rain, never visiting any troops in the field because of the long flights…this is the kind of stuff that can turn his base, not 100% but enough. All you Trump supporters in the WC, get off the train now homey.

yea im mad i didnt get veteran’s day off. i think stock market should be close. thats some disrespectful shit.

Lol, McChrystal who got fired for publicly criticizing a bunch of other senior administration officials and VP Biden? Yeah, I’m sure everybody’s on the edge of their seat for what won’t be hypocritical at all. What people don’t get is that Trump supporters love his policies and no matter how crappy he is they’re going to keep supporting his policies. Trump haters are going to hate him and since everybody only has one vote nothing has changed.

Trump has made hypocrisy fashionable, and no deal breaker. In SM’s defense, he’s openly discussed and written about his firing and accepted that he could have handled things differently. Does that sound like Trump? I think the dems could run someone like David Petraeus or Bill McRaven and win. People are tiring of trump, just look at the mid-terms, and the more trump disses the military he fractures his base.

Fair enough. I think we’re reaching consensus on topics.

I disagree with this analysis. The hard core MAGA people, nor the hard core gender neutral safe room people, decide the elections. And if we are approaching this issue as a true Bayesian, there is a lot of information that Trump support has meaningfully eroded - which is notable given the thin margin for victory in the first place. Not sure if any of this Veteran stuff matters, per se, but it adds to the greater narrative moving the voters who actually matter. The most interesting shift has been the white women. Women, am I right? Guess they don’t want to MAGA

False. Lets start with Trump’s approval ratings which are roughly inline with and closing with past presidents at this point in their terms, only 3% behind Obama and 1% behind Clinton at this stage, tied with Regan. Oddly his biggest deficit vs recent presidents comes versus the Bushes. Beyond that his ratings have steadily climbed after troughing from 37% last December to 43% today. So directionally this is patently false.

Secondly, women without college degrees still prefer to vote Republican. So you’re really relying on polls for a subset of a subset of a population to decide your case.

End of the day its not the panacea most echo chambers want to believe and a lot can change either way in two years, or not at all. Either way, realistically the midterms didn’t show a lot of surprises either way and the blue wave was more of a blue meh. Keep in mind that going back to 1862 the presidents part has lost an average of 2 seats in the senate and 32 in the house. Yet the blue wave saw Republicans GAIN a seat in the senate and loose fewer than average seats in the house and is the first time in several administrations both house and senate weren’t flipped so under Trump Republicans have seen better mid-term results than the Presidential parties under either Obama or Bush. Reality simply doesn’t match the angry white woman narrative. Just another desperate hope.

Ugh, that won’t do. Need to find more controversial topics.

You stated explicitly “nothing is changed” and now you want to clarify what subsets have changed in my comment. Just admit you were too strident in your initial dismissal

As usual, I think 538 gets it right.

Yes, It Was A Blue Wave. No, It Doesn’t Matter For 2020.

Nothing has changed big picture. You’re talking about one subset of one subset to make some moronic point about losing support while the broader approval ratings have been improving. Lol nice try. Anyhow, blue wave was blue meh. More wishful thinking, this is the first president to hold at least a split congress following midterms in decades.

538 gets is right as per usual, except of course the presidential election call. But then some rambling from some excuse making editorial about how this is the third biggest house swing in 40 years, you know, behind Obama, so what that was red wave now? Lol. Then the excuses start, well yeah, they picked up senate seats but only 1-2. Wut? The blue wave was a loss of senate seats? Historically the presidents party loses two seats average and all recent presidents have lost both house and senate in midterm. Lolz, keep dreamin’!
