Best weekly magazine for economics & investment analysis

So my subscription to the Economist ran out, and I don’t think I want to pay $200/year to renew it. I like it, but I don’t like it that much. To be honest, if I read 1/4 of it, that was a lot.

Does anybody know a good weekly magazine that I can read instead? I like economics & investing insights, and some politics (but not too heavy and not too partisan). And since I’m American, I like emphasis on American stuff. (It’s hard to really get into the protests of the minority house of congress in Sudan.)

FYI - I’m not really interested in M&A or individual companies, and all that kind of stuff, which kind of sours me on the WSJ. I read it, and like some of the articles, but to read 2.5 pages of “Big Company #1 bids $100000000000000 to acquire Big Company #2” just isn’t my thing.

bloomberg businessweek. anyways if you want to watch youtube videos instead. cnbc makes videos of current topics that is similar to the economist. but its free and you can just watch it.

on military spending: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tcgcJgnha2w

I find that the Economist is by far the best magazine that satisfies your criteria, other than the US focus (even if they do cover material US events with some depth). The next tier down of American magazines seems to be the Bloomberg or Forbes types, which seem to be a bit more corporate focused and casual in terms of depth.

I’d suggest you watch Slickdeals (maybe set up an alert) for the next time they offer 52 issues for $48. They offer deals quite frequently (three times already this year).

Funny timing…Deal is live again.

Economist is the best in that category, but if you broaden the category to topical issues and business, I prefer Wired anymore. Economist has become too much political commentary.

It’s a shame the Get Woke with Turd thread isn’t still going… maybe infowars

Barron’s so that you can appear smart, “connecting the dots” and forming market conclusions for your clients that are merely correlated but entirely free of causation.

It’s not a magazine but the FT and WSJ are my favs. They have great writers, and they cover a broad swathe of news that cover smaller segments like non-US credit and rates, m&a outside the US…etc. More importantly, they don’t feature their editorial writers, which I happily ignore (especially WSJ). One thing to note, I don’t get as much value reading online as I did with the old paper. I used to scan headlines on every page and occasionally find some gems. Reading online I can get too targeted, and I don’t stumble onto things as often.
