2013 CFA Level II reviews

I agree. I think we ALL know what is being referred to here. I was pretty pissed off when I saw it.

does anybody know the breakdown by country or at least region on exam takers by level? is that in the survey or not? I can’t remember.

I will write to Schweser. At least they will respond.

Guys, do not worry too much about 1 or 2 questions, there are 120 questions in all and 1 question only count less than 0.9%. They will also remove all unfair questions after reviewing complaints and comments from candidates and I am sure certain questions will not be counted after all. What I am more worried about is that this year exam was relatively easy compared to every other years, so the MPS may be raised and more candidates will fail, that is very scarry to me and I think they need to be consistent in the standard of the exam year by year

How does everyone think they did in Ethics?

i thought it was absolutely crap. they left out so many core parts of the curriculum and asked very detailed questions on minor parts of the curriculum, i felt there were so many good/hard/important things i learned that were left untested and that really annoyed me

and i know ethics is always subjective with a lot of grey areas, but c’mon this time they gave a new definition to subjective

Ha,

At my test center there was a proctor that was sitting on a chair inside the bathroom. I was like whoa, someone drew the short straw. That sucks.

Same at my test center as well. I was thinking poor guy and just wondering if they took turns sitting in the bathroom watching people, or if that one person was being paid extra for that job.

Oh yes Ethics was definitely vague. I think I bombed the entire ethics sections.

I believe if there is one section that is unfair, it should be ethics! Hugely vague questions and descriptions, very subjective too

Ditto.

I honestly think this test will come down to ethics. Accounting, equity, quant, corp fin, alternatives, were all straightforward plug and chug that shouldn’t have given anyone much trouble if you rtfq

Some sections were easier than last year, others where harder. The mps and pass rate will not change significantely imho. I felt strong in ethics fra equities cf and alts. Felt weak in the rest. If i pass it will boarderline.

so i am not the only one who found ethics confusing

I know the majority of posters said this was easy - I must say I’m quite envious!

I found it fair, but I wouldn’t go as far as to call it easy. Some areas where I’m normally strong left me perplexed (Ethics come to mind) while others felt more comfortable than expected.

Three things worry me most:

A. I had several “oh, wait!” moments where I realized I had missed a trick or additional data; of course this makes me wonder: for every nuance I caught in time, how many was I oblivious to? A question may feel easy because we nailed it, or it may feel easy because we rushed to an assumption.

B. I don’t feel very good about the few guesses I had to make. On my practice tests I had a rather good track record when forced to guess: through logics, heuristics, intuition, experience or sheer luck I would get way more than 1 in 3 correct. On Saturday my intuition was nowhere to be found…

C. Given that I am a first timer and only had 4 months to study (Dec Lev 1) I am painfully aware that I don’t know the material as thoroughly as many others. Therefore I was one of those masochists hoping for a somewhat hard exam as I am more confident in my problem solving skills than in my knowledge of the material. If the test was as easy as this thread paints it to be, I don’t like my chances with curved grading.

But hey, nothing we can do other than patiently wait at this point! All I can say is that no matter the outcome I am happy that I tried and can keep my head high for giving it a good shot. Hopefully good enough!

Good luck to all of you guys.

LOL, I almost made a jokey comment to the proctor in the bathroom about him getting the “shit” job but I wasn’t sure how he’d take it so I held back and just walked out without saying anything. You really do wonder how that got decided.

Also, it was difficult to tell what was required vs. recommended so if they ask did so and so violated Standard X, it was hard to tell if that means violate the required standard or violate required or recommended standard.

The only section that really confused me was derivatives. I thought I knew derivatives well and the AM did not seem that hard (although the PM did seem hard). I really thought I knew how to solve these but somehow the answer was not coming out correctly. Also some of the wording was confusing where I wasn’t sure what time frame we were looking at.

glad to hear everyone hated ethics. That morning section was total BS.
