I played in many BB gun wars back in the day. Probably not the smartest thing I did in my childhood years. At least we wore goggles…until they fogged up which was almost immediately.
The terminology alone is a dead giveaway that you have no idea what you’re talking about. If you’ve ever spent time shooting an AK47 versus virtually any western designed gun it’s not even close. Accuracy, range rate of fire, weight, balanced recoil, literally any metric and modern rifles are infinitely better.
Sure, they may be slightly more durable but contemporary rifles get put through the ringer too and are more than rugged enough for a battlefield. AK’s just suck plain and simple. There’s a reason virtually no military uses them that has a choice in the matter (ie, can afford to buy them and is able to use legal arms dealers).
I wasn’t aware there’s a community for people that want to get shot by BB guns. That’s pretty stupid. From age 12-15 me and my buddies would go to a friend’s farm outside of town and split into teams and have (mostly) 3x3 wars. They’d typically last for about 3-4 hours and generally everyone got shot a few times. It was pretty intense. Those BB guns pack a pretty good punch, much worse than a paintball. Especially when no one followed the “three pump max” rule.
^ Used to play a game we called The Hunt when I was a tween/teen. Basically me and a buddy who owned wrist rockets (“high-powered” slingshots) would hunt a bunch of our other buddies in the woods behind my parents’ house. It started off with berries as the ammunition but they didn’t fly straight, so eventually got to BB’s as the ammo. Bottle rocket wars were fun too until a neighbor called the cops on us. Fun times.
I am no expert in firearms, I have shot less than 30 rounds in my entire life. The sexy claim was based on pure looks. So are you saying that not even these modern AK rifles are any good ? So why does something like the saiga make it to the west ?
Community ? Who, the Airsoft guns and the variety in terms of actual replicas and their capabilities have become an industry now.For example an Airsoft shotgun powered by CO2 canisters/powerful battery actually shoots like a shotgun by shooting multiple BB’s at once. Basically these designers have replicated every feature of a real gun except the actual bullet shooting.A dude at my BJJ gym had a sig sauer p226 made by the company itself which could be field stripped just like the real thing. They run their own forums and whatnot, but the community is actually full of rich middle age men who take their corporate hatred into the field. My neighbor is a decent lawyer who takes part in these games religiously.
Yeah, I never gave up the bottle rocket wars. Every year after the kids are asleep and my buddies and I are fairly sloshed, we’ll grab a pack of bottle rockets and start throwing them at each other. Can’t wait until one of us loses an eye. It’ll be a terrific cautionary tale for our kids.
Modern AK-47’s are the same as the old ones, nothing has really changed in the design. They’re very popular because Russia made more than 100 million during the course of the cold war that nobody wants now and they’re easy and low cost to produce. Typically an AK-47 runs about half the cost of a modern rifle, is very easy to use, doesn’t need cleaned and is durable. But because of all of these features they also weigh a ton, are innacurate, not balanced for recoil and just generally function poorly. It really feels like you’re holding someone’s high school shop project with spot welded and bent sheet metal. In the hands of a trained shooter, a western rifle is significantly better. Some people still use them as a fun gun in the US because of the novelty and low cost. They are also popular for things like the Saiga 12 conversion because you don’t need tight specs to create accuracy in a shotgun and they’re both cheap and easy to modify / mill. Most shotguns are significantly less engineered than a rifle which requires precision. But if I could go out on any budget and say choose between a Saiga 12 and AA12 (western version) then I’d go AA12 all the way.
