At what age did you have to become the breadwinner and attain 6 figs?

Agreed, and I even said I don’t have a great link handy. Nonetheless, you don’t provide a link to better data. On the more productive front, this 2008 census bureau data still lists 6+% of individuals above $100k: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Personal_income_in_the_United_States#Income_distribution I would hazard that the personal income asymptotically approaches the household income as the income threshold grows. I wouldn’t focus on age too much. By 25-27 years old you’ll know whether you’re going to deviate from the average significantly or not.

2008 median income by state and number of earners is available as an Excel download at: http://www.census.gov/hhes/www/income/statemedfaminc.html

Geography matters a lot also. At my office, every 1st year analyst made six figures. This would probably not be the case in cheaper parts of the country.

I guess the leafers stopped buying maple syrup…

I think we should start talking about 6 figures net. Gross means nothing. Gross just means you’re a schmuck if you pay higher taxes, work longer hours and take home less once all is said and done. Give me net 6 figures any day.

also, no bonus included. bonuses are volatile - one year it’s there, next year it isn’t. 6 figures base y’all

Where’s kkent when you need him? He said something once with which I agree: “It’s easier to make $10M once than it is to make $250K/year.” You’ve never going to get rich having someone else pay you. Also, locational differences are huge. I make about half as much as a married couple I know who live in Park Slope, but my house is 3 times as large. I also know a person considering move from the midwest to the Palo Alto area, but even with a 30% raise included it likely won’t cover the difference in cost of living.
