Wanna meet up? Trying to meet more people in finance in Boston. Grats on the job, sounded like a difficult road to get there.
In my experience, headhunters have always been worthless. They are looking for the easy sell so they can collect their commission and move on. Most of them barely understand the industry. They will always try to place you below your potential and will quickly lose interest if they don’t get you in the first position. Networking works well, although for me personally, I’ve always focused on hundreds and hundreds of online applications. When you eventually do get some interest you had better be ready to interview with your A game.
Making the move closer to the front office requires the ability to operate in a very self directed manner as the path is difficult. Some people intuitively can look at the situation, understand the industry and understand the steps they must take. Others need to be told the path. If you’re in the latter group, the odds of making the move successfully are zero percent. If you’re in the former group it’s more possible. You definitely will not make the move BO -> FO in one step, schooling can sometimes help bridge the gap to a mid office role which can then lead to FO.

I’m up in Boston pretty regularly - I teach most terms in a weekly prep class (usually 4 times in fall and another half-dozen in spring). I’m not a studly young guy like all y’all, but would be happy to meet up for a brew or two some time.
As for the kid - hang on. You’re in for the ride of your life. Lots of work, but nothing better than coming in the door to a little one shouting “Daddy! Daddy!” It’s the closest most of us will ever get to feeling like a rockstar.
