^ I have several friends in mixed marriages and I’m in one myself. Canada two biggest cities are less than half white. The fact that you even raise the issue is a little bizarre to me, the idea of mixed marriages isn’t even really something considered here as unusual. It’s just a normal couple. I know that’s less true with older generations of Canadians, where the concept seems more novel to them.
You don’t think it is an indicator of an integrated scociety? From what I can gather, almost ten percent of all marriages in the states are between those that decended from different parts of the World. And about half that for good ole post racial Canada. New marriages over 15% in the states. Didn’t see a number for our “sophisticated” brothers to the North. And Alberta must have changed. It was white as snow in the late nineties.
Yes, Alberta was white as snow when I came here but it is very diverse now. Well, at least in the cities. Calgary elected a flamboyant Muslim mayor. It’s far more progressive out here than we get credit for. Yeah, its the most ‘American’ and Conservative place in Canada, but our conservatism has always been based more on merit than on heritage. That attracts lots of hardworking immigrant families, who generally have been openly accepted.
