Barbarians at the Gate

The story is about a 18 year old kid who begins working in a chop shop near Wall Street (think of the movie Boiler Room, only real). He is an excellent salesman who makes a ton of money on rips. This was during the 90s. This was before Arthur Levit and Eliot Spitzer tackle the scams on Wall Street. Likewise the Columbo Family has pull on the NASD so that they minded their own business, which entitled the mafia to take a cut of these chop shops. It is hard for me to imagine this going on only 10-15 years ago. Much like the movie boiler room, these brokers (many without the 7) only knew how to sell. They knew nothing regarding P/E ratios, what the company did, etc. The IPO sold itself. Lastly the chop shop in this book was J.P. Moran. And I thought Boiler Room was only a movie. I’m going back to reading it now.
