okay guys, don’t laugh, but lets just say algebra is a little rusty. how do you solve for W here: .15 = W(.04) + (1-W)(.125) i can plug in numbers and stuff but it takes forever, how do you do this the “right” way?
0.15 = 0.04*W + 0.125 - 0.125*W 0.15 - 0.125 = 0.04*W - 0.125*W 0.025 = (0.04 - 0.125)*W 0.025 = -0.085*W -0.085*W = 0.025 W = 0.025/-0.085 W=-0.06
Ahhh, thanks swaption. I had no clue how to deal with the 1-w
when you have something in brackets, you multiply everything in it by anything sitting next to it. so (a + b)c would equal = ac + bc (a + b)cd = acd + bcd (a + b)a = a^2 +ba (a - b)a = a^2 - ba and to get a little more complicated with (a + b)(c + d) you would do the same, mutliply each component by the each other component in the bracket next to it so. (a + b)(c + d) = ac + ad + bc + bd dont forget a minus x a minus = a plus. ie -3 x -3 = 9
thanks guys, it’s like 8th grade all over again! haha.
