My brother on the very far left. I’m not sure he would go so far as to say he regrets voting for Obama, but he definitely views him as a major disappointment. In order to admit regret, there would have to have been a better option (in his mind) to vote for.
I wonder how many votes Obama cost the remain camp? Told the brits they would be at the end of queue. I imagine there were more than a few middle finger votes.
What does this mean for Scotland, Northern Ireland? Will they have their own currency?
If other countries follow suit, will the euro disappear altogether?
I hear Italy, France, Netherlands, Sweden are all considering backing out. Then you have Scotland & Northern Ireland. And Greece had their own scare a few years ago, I am not up to date anymore but what is stopping them of doing the same (debts/contracts possibly?)
Deutsche Bank just closed down 500 banks, 1/4 of the German branches BEFORE brexit
how the greek drachma was going to be re-issued…probably very similar to what will happen if one of these countries leaves (and potentially the GBP / Scottish new currency too)
Triggering Article 50, formally notifying the intension to withdraw, starts a two-year clock running. After that, the Treaties that govern membership no longer apply to Britain. The terms of exit will be negotiated between Britain’s 27 counterparts, and each will have a veto over the conditions.
It will also be subject to ratification in national parliaments, meaning, for example, that Belgian MPs could stymie the entire process.
Two vast negotiating teams will be created, far larger than those seen in the British renegotiation. The EU side is likely to be headed by one of the current Commissioners.
naw. my prediction on an easy clinton victory stands. americans just aren’t mad enough to vote trump. plus he’s trump. i stand by that.
as for le pen, she was ahead in the polls forever until juppe showed up. i don’t think juppe will be able to beat le pen when france is in recession and talk about leaving the eu before it falls apart is mainstream though. juppe represents increased EU integration. le pen represents EU disintegration. i think disintegration will win.
i think this soveignty thing will echo throughout the world. if scotland and other eu states have referendums, i wouldn’t be surprised if quebec tries to have another one. too bad the UK and all these other places didn’t enact the clarity act as we did.
i would probably be willing to make that bet with small dollars. i generally prefer not to make binary bets when my payoff is less than 1. just personal preference. bottom line is that i have no concern about a trump victory effecting my investments.
Won’t dissolve the EU, but actually make it stronger. The U.K. was an awkward fit and a weak link politically. Now the remaining countries can integrate more strongly.
The courageous British have overcome 10/1 odds to put their citizens first and assert their independence from the global elite. Who is to say that US voters cannot do the same come November and elect charismatic genius Trump as their supreme ruler, er President?
